With little warning, Hip Hop veteran Missy Elliott sent fans into a frenzy when she announced the release of her long-awaited project, ‘ICONOLOGY.’
Hitting digital shelves on August 23, the 5-song EP – her first body of work since 2005’s ‘The Cookbook’ LP – came as a celebrated reunion with longtime collaborator Timbaland and was also accompanied by a Dave Meyers-directed music video for its first single, ‘Throw It Back.’ Later promoted as part of a medley during her MTV VMA Video Vanguard performance (click here to watch), ‘Back’s first televised showing helped kick off a week of promo for the femcee which also featured radio and Web interviews.
Now, with its first official tracking week of sales in its rearview, Elliott – despite stiff competition from the likes of Taylor Swift and more – can see the fruit of her labor. Look inside to find out where she landed on this week’s Billboard 200:

Numbers matter! The only way an artist gets back the money they invested in making new songs is from sales aka numbers. Somebody has to pay for producers, writers, sound engineers, studio sessions, videos, etc so when people make comments like ‘so and so is just making music for their fans and they don’t care about numbers’ it sounds dumb. In 2019 it is very easy to support an artist without even having to spend too much…just some time to stream their new music when it is released.

I’m confused about that too Ciara Album would have been a lot higher and would have sold more than what she had during first week if she would have not done preorders for BeautyMarks but since everybody so worried about first week sales it sold about 10K during the first week of being released and sold 135K ww she’s still learning and I think she knows better to not do preorders next time since those sales was not counted for first week.

So I listened to the EP. I didn’t like it, Throw it Back is cute and definitely grower for me. I think timing is important in today’s time and of course material. I can’t stream something that I don’t like, even though I love the artist.
I said 15,000 before I opened the article – if she can, she needs to ensure flawless bodies of work, with melodies, features, stellar production and world class visuals (as we’ve come to expect) perhaps tied with an innovative media roll out to reach the casual listeners who don’t know what time it is. I feel like here time is not over, Missy has seen and done it all musically and her presence is missed.
Missy front ended this project as well as released it the day after she announcing it. Pair that with it just being an EP made those numbers happen lol. SN sales are down just if anyone is wondering ? lol

She’s still a legend with many hits and dope music and first week sales shouldn’t determined an artist talents or anything less than, The music industry and fans are fickle af and has changed ALOT and it’s not easy for black artist (from the past) to get the sales or streams they may have had before.

She never tours; she writes and produces, and therefore, she doesn’t need to tour to have seven fully-paid homes. She performs at festivals. She’s not about to do a 50-city tour. If you wanna see Missy, you gotta sit through 50 other performers before she comes out and do a 15-minute set. Unlike Janet Jackson, Beyonce, JayZ who are working as if they are broke newbies.
