Stormzy Reveals He Turned Down Jay-Z Collaboration

Published: Monday 2nd Dec 2019 by Sam

Stormzy has garnered props aplenty from from the public and his peers alike, with Hip-Hop titan Jay-Z standing as one of his many fans.

Yet, when the opportunity arose to collaborate with the rapper, the Brit star has revealed that he opted to not release the song.

Full story below…

The tea was poured during Stormzy’s recent appearance on the Jonathan Ross Show to promote forthcoming album ‘Heavy Is The Head’ and its like-titled world tour.

During the candid segment, the Brit MC revealed that she was in the lab with HOV and Ed Sheeran; and together they were working on a version of what ended up being ‘Take Me Back To London’ from Ed’s ‘No. 6 Collaborations Project.’

Yet, according to Stormzy, he was encouraged to share his instinctive take on the song by Jay; a move which led to him not releasing the track and still managing to earn Jigga’s respect all the same.

Just in case anyone is wondering why Camila Cabello is not one of the main pop girls, here’s is a list of SOME of her biggest flops. I was kind and left a few out 🙂

Sangria Wine – Didn’t chart after a big budget performance at the 2018 Billboard awards
Real Friends (she even did a REMIX with Swae Lee) – didn’t chart
Mi Persona Favorita – didn’t chart
Love Incredible with Cashmere Cat – didn’t chart
Hey Ma with Pitbull – didn’t chart
Know No Better – peaked at 87
Find U Again with Mark Ronson – didn’t chart even after promo and big budget video
Cry For Me – didn’t chart even after SNL performance
Easy – didn’t chart even after SNL performance
Living Proof – didn’t chart after AMA’s performance or the video release

More flops than anyone from Fifth Harmony. Sad.

Integrity. Jay has been mediocre and overhyped since The Blueprint album.

This type of discretion and thinking is what could save the music industry. If everyone was more concerned with making music that was impactful, had meaning and was beyond themselves as the artist, the industry could potentially go back to the glory days when it was a regular things for most artists projects to be events and something to be excited about… or just make really good music. Instead of this microwaveable forgettable sh*t we have now by social media influencers And lackluster artists with no substance or drive. Much respect to Stormzy. I love this
