Nearly three years after making its Sundance Music Festival premiere, Netflix has released the official trailer for the gripping drama, ‘Monster.’
Executive produced by Nas, John Legend, and Jeffrey Wright, the film follows the story of Steve Harmon (portrayed by Kelvin Harrison Jr.) – a Harlem honor student who’s fighting for his innocence and freedom at a turbulent trial after he was discovered at the scene of a robbery-turned-murder.
Leading a star-studded cast, Harrison Jr. is supported by ACADEMY and GRAMMY-award winning singer-actress Jennifer Hudson, EMMY and TONY-award winning actor Jeffrey Wright, EMMY Award-winning actor Jharrel Jerome, GRAMMY Award winner Nas, Jennifer Ehle, Rakim ‘A$AP Rocky’ Mayers, Tim Blake Nelson, and John David Washington.
Ahead of its May 7 premiere, see the teaser to the Anthony Mandler-directed movie inside.
It’s crazy how long it’s taken them to get a distribution deal. It bounced from one studio to another, had its name changed to All Rise (before the unrelated TV series came along), and now it’s back to Monster. I imagine it’s undergone additonal editing through the years. I hope it does right by Walter Dean Myers’ work.
