Years of waiting for Aaliyah‘s third and final studio album to hit streaming platforms was rewarded when the self-titled set arrived to Spotify, Apple Music, and other streamers on September 10 (as we reported here).
Her only GRAMMY-nominated LP, the critically acclaimed project is lauded for its housed tunes ‘We Need a Resolution,’ ‘Rock the Boat,’ More Than a Woman,’ and more. Immediately shooting to the top of real-time sales tallies upon its re-release, the renewed fanfare saw ‘Aaliyah’ poised to deliver the late singer’s best digital performance week yet.
With the sales tracking week closed, look inside to see how the previous Billboard 200-topper performed against industry analyst predictions.
Aaliyah’s ‘Aaliyah’
69th-Week Sales (SPS): 27,500 units
Billboard 200 Placement: #13
Besting its forecasted 26,500 sales units by approximately 1,000 copies, the inaugural digital sales week performance of ‘Aaliyah’ marks her best digital week yet – leading to a #13 re-entry on the Billboard 200 (a tally it previously topped in 2001 the week following news of her death).
Faring even better on R&B charts, ‘Aaliyah’ – despite premiering at #2 behind Doja Cat‘s enduring hit album, ‘Planet Her’ – comes as the week’s top-selling R&B effort (pure sales) as it boasted approximately 16,300 units shifted over the past sales tracking week compared to Cat’s 600.

Damn. At this point they need to do a deluxe and vinyl. I always loved the alternate white cover 🤍
The vinyl is available for pre-order 🙂
Yesssss it’s on urban outfitters 💅🏿 Their shipping is a messsssss tho. I waited almost half years for my blondie vinyl🤳🏻
Did she sell more (pure sales) than Lil Nas ?
Besides 2-3 tracks that are so so, the rest of the album is amazing. It has aged so well.
I still mourn the art we never got after her passing. I miss you, Aaliyah. At your best you love.
Icon
Rkelly should still be getting his Grammys, bet awards, Ama, mtv awards. Just cause he is locked up he still should be getting awards….. His legacy in music and being in jail is two separate things
Iconic… Legend!!
