It all began earlier this week when DJ Akademiks reported that ‘Trendsetter’ was set to debut with 11,000 units during its first week, which is 35,000 less than the projected #1 album Lil Durk‘s ‘7220.’

The figures have not been verified as of reporting, but it was enough for critics to come for her. This eventually led Leray to respond, saying:
“God has been the best father to me. I can’t complain about anything. My debut album is amazing and not one song can you say is bad. It been 5 days. I understand Coi Leray is so viral & works good on blogs headlines but trust me,it’s all part of the game just ride out and stay focus.”

In another tweet, she went on to asset that she has “thick skin” and that she would not “fold under pressure.”

Why is album sakes even a topic? Sales are nothing like they used to be. Just as long as people are doing what they love is all that matters. My favorite artists don’t sell like they used to but they still make great music. That’s all that matters to me.
True you have a point HOWEVER, strong sales is necessary for an artist to keep their debt to a record company low. Yes, there are some successful acts out rn, but they are always on tour to help cut the expenses for the album. Most money they received is an advancement and must be paid back from the project. You’re correct that our favorite artists don’t do the numbers as before, but that’s due to the fact they’re listening audience is older, the artist is older, and the market has completely changed. They still see some form of success because they built such a foundation at the height of their careers. Artists get pennies on the dollar per song and album sold. If I sold 11k albums and had a Nikki feature, chances are you didn’t even make enough to cover the cost for the song…..unless Nikki decided to help her out for free. Too many moving parts and factors so this is why artists today can’t just enjoy making music.

She should have called one of the girls who are actually relevant in the music scene. If she had called Cardi B instead, her album would have done a little better.
