The conundrum around the ‘Friday’ revival continues.

Because after Ice Cube shot down the possibility of another installment of the film franchise, DC Young Fly has intimated otherwise.

Murmurs of a new ‘Friday’ film gathered steam in 2016 – and embedded in said chat was the notion of DC Young Fly taking on the role of Smokey, which was made famous by Chris Tucker.

Cube, who also headlined the first flick in 1995, dismissed the talk as nothing more than rumors. And little else, beyond social media natter, has been said since.

Until now. 

Appearing on the Club Shay Shay Show, the ‘Wild ‘N Out’ comic says not only has there been talk of a ‘Friday’ follow-up, but his involvement has allegedly been specifically requested by…Tucker.

When quizzed on the possible ‘Friday’ film, DC explained:

“I ain’t supposed to say this, but I’m gonna say it anyway. Because we getting old. I don’t care.

Chris Tucker, out of his mouth, told me – literally this year – if I play his son, he’ll be in the movie.

I promise you, out of his mouth, this is what he said to me.”

The mystery continues.

What is for sure is that the need or lack thereof for a new ‘Friday’ movie will remain the center of ample debate.

On the one hand, it’s easy to see why studios, original stars, and newbies would be interested. The franchise has churned out three cult classics – all of which were made on relatively small budgets and have grossed over $120 million collectively.

As seen with ‘Coming 2 America’ and several other titles, it can oftentimes be lucrative to revisit franchises with an established audience.

Yet, on the other hand, as the age-old adage goes: “if it’s not broken, why fix it?”

Time will tell how this plays out.
