Cop a gander of Halle Bailey!
The singer-actress sparkles on the cover of Variety Magazine‘s latest issue.
Beyond posing it up for the accompanying Greg Swales lensed shoot, the 21-year-old opened up about playing the lead of Ariel in Disney’s live-action remake of ‘The Little Mermaid,’ the racist comments hurled at her after landing the role, and new music – both solo and by way of Chloe x Halle.
Full story below…
On The Significance of Playing Ariel:
“It was an inspiring and beautiful thing to hear [my grandparents’] words of encouragement, telling me, ‘You don’t understand what this is doing for us, for our community, for all the little Black and brown girls who are going to see themselves in you.’
What that would have done for me [seeing others before me], how that would have changed my confidence, my belief in myself, everything. Things that seem so small to everyone else, it’s so big to us.”
Chloe Bailey on How Her Sister Navigated the Racism She Faced for Landing the Role:
“It’s important to have a strong support system around you. It’s hard to carry the weight of the world on your own.”
Excerpt on New Music:
Music remains her passion. And just because she and Chloe are focused on doing their own thing doesn’t mean they have gone solo. Bailey confirms that the two will reunite on a follow-up to their Grammy-nominated albums “The Kids Are Alright” and “Ungodly Hour.”
“My sister is my backbone,” Bailey says. “She’s my best friend. She’s my everything. When I write with her, it’s different than when I’m just alone. When we sing together, I feel differently than when I’m just singing by myself.”
On Her Goal with The Little Mermaid:
“I want the little girl in me and the little girls just like me who are watching to know that they’re special, and that they should be a princess in every single way. There’s no reason that they shouldn’t be. That reassurance was something that I needed.”
Her career is turning out surprisingly better than her bigger sister’s. Wise to take her time, it’ll make her stand out that she’s pursuing film then going into music with a different sound other than Chloe’s. Love this shoot ❤️

Paulo they are insane 😂 and need to feel important so they come here and judge people for supporting an artist. Weirdos.
JynkxAugust 9, 2022
Not UHoesFunny being actually really funny, isn’t you who’s dragging down fans of Camila Cabello and others? 🤡 tadada-tadam 🎉 At this point you should consider to convert yourself into a professional clown or a comedian 🤭 we can help you find a stage name if you want, don’t hesitate to ask for some inspiration, we readt so much tea about you that it would be easy ☕👌”
You got all the reasons to be pressed, you know that you can’t fool anyone neither 😘
Going out sad dude
😁
Going out so sad 😮💨 LOL and seem to be utterly obsessed with me. Gworl gone on. LAME 😂
I have a serious problem with psycho like you that harass others because of their favorites and then act like you are a victim whenever someone is hitting you back. Clown thing.
Yes ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💯
Chloe would be that girl, if we did not already have a Beyonce.
Her success will magnify when she can distinguish her brand, as a solo artist
Yes exactly. She’s finding her identity. It was easier when she was in a group because her sister is so different than her, so there was balance. Now Chloe is on her own, and finding it difficult to show herself without being compared to QUEEN B. Who is a very very tough act to follow. She’ll get there, in due time.
Chloe’s music is trash and she’s so overtly s*** that it comes off as cringe and try hard. She’s young and still finding herself. Usually the label does that and allows you to break away later in your career (once you get some success). The talent is there , she just needs A LOTTTTT of guidance. I know Beyonce doesn’t sign off on that bullshytt lol.
If y’all wasn’t too busy slanging dope and gangbanging there would be more black stories
Diva loves gang banging💅🏾 It is lots of fun having 3 🍆 in my holes and 2🍆 in my mouth
What a surprise, talking about trash s** when you’re not harassing people and threating them? 😀
I wish I could f*** Diva
Poor Shayla 😂 you are so proud to prove everyone how you are good at emulating others account and i’m fine with that.
What else can an ashy h o e talk about besides Racism? 💅🏾 How original??????
Exactly.
She is probably glad to be the center of attention.
How pretentious of her to think that she has to carry the world on her own.
She keeps contradicting herself. If people of every colour loved the little mermaid, why does she feel the need to make this only about her community ?
Oh and she looks average on those pics.
Y’all so mad 😂 she has a whole career. Signed to Disney & album on the way. Meanwhile y’all in the comments 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Mad about what exactly ?
I am just speaking facts. The girl is a flop, so is her sister.
And they have the support and ressources of Beyonce … can you imagine ?
You ignorant people cannot and do not read
Chloe said that about the world being on Halle’s shoulders. Halle is humble
Be more concerned with elevating black females ⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️
Aside of none of you having any platform of whoever you bash. 😌
Explain how she’s a flop when she hasn’t even released solo music? Dumbass
I love her voice so she’s actually a great fit for Ariel.
And still you’re not welcome here anymore with your toxic multi-personalities 😘
What are you waiting for using my avatar, just to prove me wrong? I’m still waiting 😀
Still waiting 😁
TF is she wearing?
You have to be smarter and see further than the tip of your nose.
It’s very easy for studios to ditch white people and replace them with black folks to play the all inclusive card. And ya’ll are falling for this sh!t.
I know people think of the anime, but before that you have to remember that it’s a tale. From Denmark. Sure it could be taking place anywhere and the characters could be yellow or green for all I care.
But tomorrow if there’s an adaptation of a tale from Africa, I would surely hope they wouldn’t cast Caucasians or Asians or whatever.
Now the part that makes me mad : why don’t Studios create new heroes to represent everyone on the big screen ?
Why aren’t we talking as well about representing Latinos, Asians, Indians, Native Americans, Caribbeans, Arabs etc. ? Because a lot of people have been persecuted, enslaved and discriminated against.
My point is, I think it would be much more gratifying to know Studios have been investing, developping and creating new characters. Versus playing a chess game, taking down a white person and replace her with a person of color in the name of diversity.
I am so much clever than you 😚
No you’re not Shayla, you just have good friends to help you because you took the time to find a way to use my avatar 😀
Now i want you to do the same but with your original account, keep Shayla as name and use the dragon 😀
She is going to be huge!!!
She kinda follows the footsteps of Aaliyah’s career but in 2022 – after Aaliyah, Beyonce and other icons made a path for someone like her to follow.
SO EXCITED for what Halle is going to bring us! Wish the Bailey sisters success in their professional endeavors. I will be listening, watching, and supporting with my wallet…
It’s not racism. Little mermaid ain’t black that’s it. Ah ain’t Latina, middle eastern etc. Stop woke swapping them characters. Create new ones that’s it. Nobody needs sloppy seconds.
