Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.
However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.
This week, we want to highlight cuts from Jackson Wang, Lewis Capaldi, 5 Seconds of Summer, and Bjork.
Join us inside…
Jackson Wang – Blue
After much anticipation, GOT7 member Jackson Wang has unveiled his album ‘Magic Man.’ A project packed with hit after hit, the album is a nonstop collection of tour de force pop songs. Featured among these songs is the song ‘Blue.’ Featuring gentle strums of guitar and a pounding backbeat, he sings about a love so potent it can lift him up even when he is blue. A more raw version of himself than seen on previous cuts, ‘Blue’ is not only him at his most honest, but also him at his most brilliant.

Lewis Capaldi – Forget Me
After a 3 year break, pop hitmaker Lewis Capaldi is back with his latest single ‘Forget Me.’ A stark contrast from previous releases, ‘Forget Me’ is more upbeat in terms of production, with touches of piano, a soft backbeat, and warm synths found throughout. While the subject matter of a breakup is still the same, Capaldi has shown to be a master of the subject already. Easily a must hear track this week, ‘Forget Me’ is a new side to Capaldi that showcases his versatility as an artist.

5 Seconds of Summer – Older
Rock band 5 Seconds of Summer are gearing up to release their new album ‘5SOS5’ on September 23 and they have shared the latest tune from it. Entitled ‘Older,’ the song is a minimalistic piano ballad that is and ode to love and that special someone. One of the more distinct tunes in their discography, ‘Older’ is a welcome foray into a new musical direction for the boys.

Bjork – Atopos
Legendary vocalist Bjork is back with her first new music in five years and it is unlike anything she has released before. Ditching the flute section from her previous album, she instead heads to the dance floor with production that is both ominous and clattering, which creates an earth-shattering atmosphere. Make no mistake, while there are a lot of moving parts here, Bjork’s natural musical talent brings them together in perfect musical harmony, simply glorious.
