Ariana Grande has been a trending topic since the release of her infectious new single ‘yes, and?’ along with its cinematic music video.
Much of the discourse has centered on the potency of the Max Martin and Ilya-produced track and the 30-year-old’s long-awaited return to the spotlight.
However, many have also been vocal in pointing to the similarities between Grande’s Christian Breslauer-directed visual and Paula Abdul‘s iconic ‘Cold Hearted’ clip from 1989.
With the comparisons making their way to Abdul’s orbit head below to find out what she had to say.
The 61-year-old performer/TV personality took to Instagram to share a split-screen montage of the ‘yes, and’ and ‘Cold Hearted’ visuals.
She added the caption:
“WOW! Waking up to see @arianagrande pay homage to “Cold Hearted” in her new music video “yes, and?” was EVERYTHING!!! What an honor! What was your favorite part of the video? I love you, Ari!!! 💋💋💋 XoP”
Commenting on the post, Grande gushed:
“i love you too, sweetest queen ! 🥺 thank you for your brilliance and for inspiring me (and so many people) endlessly!”
We’re loving the love!
I don’t think Ariana and her team realized they copied Paula until the internet pointed it out lmao.
This couldn’t be further from the truth. The similarities are wayyy too close
