As reported here, BET is set to honor late R&B songstress Aaliyah with a tribute special commemorating the 10th anniversary of her untimely passing.
BET reports the show, entitled Aaliyah: One In a Million, will feature commentary from Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Patti Labelle, Kelly Rowland, and more.
Fans can tune into BET on Thursday, August 25 at 8/7 central to catch the special. Until then, BET is already underway with a 25 day celebration (starting August 1st) celebrating the accomplishments of the ‘More Than A Woman’ singer.
Will you be watching Aaliyah: One In a Million?

I’m pissed they have amy winehouse bio movie already in the talks and aaliyah been dead for 10 years and no one cares to make anything about her life. She was a good singer and talent. It’s a pity a drug addict who ruined her own life is worth more than a young women 22 who lost her life in a plane crash.
Aaliyah is a very good singer !
AWWWWW!!!!
i’m only watching becuz Kelly Rowland is tributing.
@ Rihanna is the best:
I believe Aaliyah’s family is holding up her bio-pic. Last I heard her mom is dead set AGAINST it and without the family’s blessing it’s a no go.
HER MUSIC IS LENGENDARY & SHE STILL SLAYING THESE B****** !!!!!!!! WE MISS YOU BABY GIRL !!!! RIP !!!!!!!!

POOR BEY !
@ Goddess You are SOOOOOO RUDE !!!!!
Oh s***……
Disregard the first part of my comment @6:40pm……
The article said commentary NOT performances 😳
I feel like BET is going to f*** this up somehow…
** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPrAxP74EdU **
Why oh why is Kelly Flopland even included?
@ rihanna is the best! You will deal:
No shade to Aaliyah whatsoever, but how does the way she died make her more important than Amy? This isn’t the Pity Awards. By your logic, any movie about Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix or Kurt Cobain should be put on hold because Aaliyah died a more dignified death than they did.
Idiot.
@goddess adele stan
H** HUSH
Bey already paid her respect to A.
They arent even comparable, bey was already the Bigger Star. had already CROSSED OVER B4 Aliyah even got the chance to, Bey was POP & Aliyah was stuck doing Smooth R&B.
& also 4 “Closure” >>>>>>>> 21 by (OVERRATED) FATdele!!!!! 😉
I have been waiting for this! I truly miss her and she is forever in my heart, I will be tuning in, thanks BET, we the fans appreciate it.
Wow, I love Pattie but why is she involved? I thought Gladys Knight was instrumental in bring her into the music industry? Why is Kelly Rowland going to be included? Where are Ciara, Beyonce & Janet Jackson (her close friend)? Anyway, I am so happy they are finally honoring her. She really showed today’s “dancing singin”g chicks how to go hard on stage while still looking flawless! I hope they invite dancers. She loved to dance and would often speak of it. Wait where is Ginuwine’s name?
R.I.P. Aaliyah
i will be watchin
@S*** I can’t believe you’re turning it into a stan war, but I can’t help but react.Aaliyah was singing at the Oscars, was being praised by legends (Janet, Whitney, Stevie Wonder), she was doing campaigns (Tommy Hilfiger) and she was doing movies too (Queen Of The Damned, Romeo Must Die, Matrix and another movie too).Everyone wanted to work with her and mainstream media loved her.She was on TRL, TOTP, Leno, O’Donnel, everywhere.When she died, MTV dedicated DAYS to her memory, it was BREAKING NEWS for weeks.
While Aaliyah was accomplishing all that, Beyonce was in Destiny’s Child desperately trying to push ‘Survivor’.So before you insult an urban legend like Aaliyah and anyway before you insult a person that is not here with us anymore, you’d better get your mind working, reboot and #TRY AGAIN cause what you are doing is nasty.
@S*** And you think that DC were making pop???They were r n’b.And Aaliyah wasn’t STUCK making smooth r n’b.She was just unstoppable and kept recording classics, if that’s what you mean by “stuck”.
Aaliyah did pop you know but mixed it with R&B !
Aaliyah was beautiful and I loved her videos….. she is missed.
Ummm where is R. Kelly in this tribute???
Im so tired of the Beyonce shade on every damn post…..
This was about honoring the music of a beautiful woman who was taken away from us so suddenly, and someone has to shade Beyonce…WTF??
@ASAP
so you respond to @ S*** for simply saying that Bey was the bigger star, but not say s*** to the person who shaded both Aaliyah and Beyonce??? GTFOH
It’s amazing how timeless her music is. All the records on One in a Million, Romeo Must Die songs, and Aaliyah album still sound fresh today! The industry hasn’t been the same, and many artists haven’t been the same.
Yes she is more deserving of a biopic than Amy, because Aaiiyah wasn’t looking for a way out. I love Amy, but she didn’t appreciate the platform she was given, if your depressed than WRITE and SING! There are so many artists who are forced to be pop and sing songs that are produced for them, but Amy had the power to say whatever she wanted and she squandered it.
Aaliyah’s death was/is hard to think about because girl was putting in the work, and was on her way to mainstream lock, but it was taken by forces beyond HER power.
I will be watching
@King B All I’m saying is that amy didn’t want to live she drugged herself to death. The plane crash was an accident for aaliyah. They already thinking about a movie in the works for amy but not aaliyah and she been dead for a long time. That was my logic. Shut up. Yes, and all those ppl were drug abusers and suffered the consequences.
@BEY FAN No, I thought that the person who shaded both of them is not into r n’b music, so there was no need to bash him/her.They are two of the biggest r n’b females of the last 2 decades, so if he/she hates them both, what’s the point of responding.I answered to S*** because he/she was trying to start something messy and because his/her facts were wrong and inaccurate.
Btw, you don’t know me personally and I don’t remember giving you the right to tell me to GTFOH.
Michelle Tenitra Williams looks like Aaliyah……………….they should cast her in a biopic of Aasliyah, not that Canadian girl.
Still very special 2 me
im def gonna be down – been riding with aaliyah since high school 1999 and her debut album is a classic that i still bump til this day – so excited that she is getting honored – cant beleive its been 10 yrs already – i still remeber where i was when i heard the news of her death and i cant beleive it – she was a true triple threat – great singer actress and amazing dancer whose life was cut waaay to short – she was destined for much more but she is in God’s hands now and thats the best place to be.
side bar – i love the fact that my fav will be there ( ms kelly) paying respect to my ultimate fav before here – all is right in my world
Check it out the teaser for the UpComing Aaliyah’s SHOW Tribute 10 Years!! !! :: http://youtu.be/uuyMc0Nm6Vc :: in Belgium 🙂 !! !! CANT WAIT!!!
<3 Aaliyah. <3
I can only conclude that @Nate and @rihanna is the best! You will deal aren’t bright in the least bit. First, neither of you guys know s*** about drug addiction and depression. It’s definitely not something you deliberately choose to destroy your life with. Second, you’re also under the impression that fame and fortune should do away with every personal issue you have. How naive you guys are. Third, personal life has nothing to do with the person’s talent. Nobody celebrates deceased musicians for how they live and die, they celebrate them for the musical legacy they left behind. It’s unfortunate that Aaliyah died the way she did, and it’s EQUALLY unfortunate that Amy died the way she did. Being a drug addict doesn’t automatically translate into being an overall lesser human being. So f*** outta here with your judgmental b*******.
Im not sure why. Aaliyah wasn’t really that big of an star until she died .
Aaliyah the album was flopping before she died.
Shessh….just because someone is dead doesn’t mean you have to turn them into something they were really not.
Also @ ASAP Lies!!! She was in talks about these movies. I think she would’ve made an excellent actress plus she was absolutely gorgeous. However you must be young or too young to remember Destiny’s Child was much bigger than aaliyah.
Case in point the day she died I was sitting in my class and I’ll never forget it.
We were all talking about it and three girls said well,atleast it wasn’t Beyonce and destiny’s child. They were white btw. Destiny’s child had crossover appeal, aaliyah sadly didn’t. This is coming from a fan who was there from the time age ain’t nothing but a number all the way to aaliyah.
@PLIO Destiny’s child not just Beyonce like S*** says.And you must be either young or clueless if you think that her album was flopping.DEAD!!!!No.2 on Billboard 200, her biggest debut ever, her biggest international seller, she was doing interviews everywhere in the world, talk shows, performances and she was HANDPICKED for these movies after getting rave reviews for Romeo Must Die.Mainstream media was all upon her and she was HUGE!Every single of hers slayed the radios (if you’re looking at Wikipedia info to determine success then you’re hopeless) and the TV networks.Everybody loved her.And if she wasn’t that huge, then how come she had 2 triple platinum albums, so many urban No.1’s, so much critical acclaim, a performance at the Oscar, praise by legends and huge international campaigns???DC were huge too, but don’t try to discredit Aaliyah’s success.She was slaying.
I will be watching. They need some greater performers than that lineup. I’m thinking Beyonce, Usher and a few others. RIP Aaliyah.
I say it’s about time BET is doing this. Yes E! had a True Hollywood Story and VH1 had Behind The Music but that was 10 years ago. I just hope and pray they don’t drop the ball. Becaus we all know how BET can mess up (i.e MJ)
People are asking why Kelly Rowland is involved but Kelly, Beyonce, and Aaliyah was friends when she passed away. I’m not sure If anyone still have the Vibe magazine with Aaliyah on the cover (the black and white pic) but Kelly and Bey both was talking about how they used to hang out and how sweet Aaliyah was. Beyonce also talked about how they used to make up crazy names for their food. Go listen to Jay-Z “I Miss You Remix” and Jay is saying how he’s also going to miss making up names for their food. Just because we never seen these people hang out together don’t mean they was not friends.
I thing people forget these Actors, Singers, Rappers, and Ball Players are just like us. They just have a lot more money.
I meant THINK not THING
@King B There’s no excuse. She’s wasted her life and well intended to. Ppl tried to help her. She didn’t want to be saved. Anyone that tried to help her in her team was fired by her. She liked drugs and getting f***** up. That’s her lifestyle. I’m not being disrespectful but you gotta admit it was her own fault. No one elses. She wasted the ppl’s money that came to see her. She was acting unprofessional unstage and wasn’t performing correctly. The ppl around her were just as pathetic letting her get on stage drunk and stoned. Face it. She didn’t want to get better. She was gonna keep f****** herself over until her death. That’s what happened.
Hopefully BET wont f*** this up…and DONT get artists like Justin Bieber or Waka Flocka to perform !!!
@King B I guess if everyone was depressed and wasn’t selfless enough to think about ppl that love them and fans there wouldn’t be a lot of music out. She was self-indulgent about her problems. Death was the only way to cure her. It may be sad but she was well aware of what could happen to her. She didn’t care.
I’ll be tuned in to see Kelly Perform… I know she’s gonna do well. They should have Brandy on there as well she’s a good singer too… no Keri Hilson tho
Her Last Tribute Was Able To bring In the Most Viewers on BET I Hope They Break that Record Again !
Ummm no Brandy or Monica? They were all good friends!! Kelly Rowland? No shade but she didn’t know her like that they need to have Bran and Mo on there telling intimate stories no one would even know! Come on EBT! And stop having Patti on everyting get Gladys Knight who was Liyah’s aunt by marriage jeez!!!
@KINGDAVID….I agree 100% where the hell is BRANDY AND MONICA….i told knew BET would f*** up some how……Im over it……they should be on it b4 Kelly realtalk!!!!!
OMG!! You people have no heart at all..@goddess adele stan This is really not about Beyoncé so why are you trying to start a stan war..it’s all about Aaliyah!! It’s always somebody bringing up Beyoncé name in a post that isn’t even pertaining to her!! Stick to the main topic..this is about Aaliyah: One In A Million tribute on BET August 25!! It said at the end and more so it might be more artists we just don’t know who yet!!!
Look forward to it.
Hope it comes on BET UK as well
Loved AALIYAH
Just had those cool tracks
@PLIO all you fuckers hating you will not disrespect, my QUEEN you ignorant ass fuckers, aaliyah album was no flopping before she died you f****** IMBECILE her album debuted at #2 with sales of 190k which is not considered a flop you just want something to say you deluded ass f***** c***.
@VAEH
Chill the f*** out. I am an Aaliyah fan, but I can admit that her third album was NOT a huge commercial success at the time it was released. You know, in 2002, albums sold like crazy and unfortunately Aaliyah’s album wasn’t one of those. It was selling, obviously, but not as much people would have expected it to (being her third album). However, after her death, the sales of her album(s) increased a lot. I hate these hypocritical people who now suddenly like her because she died. It’s just like the media-thing with Michael Jackson. They have been trying to get him down for decades, and when he died, they suddenly were his biggest fans.. Anyway, I agree with @PLIO on this.
Why do some people say Beyonce wouldn’t be around if Aaliyah didn’t die? Frankly, she wasn’t that big and Beyonce had already established herself considering the success of Destiny’s Child (come on, don’t tell me Beyonce wasn’t the jewel in the crown, because she was). This is not trying to make a stan war, it’s just a question and I’m hoping someone will come with some GOOD answers and not those inconsiderate “go f*** yourself” comments… Hm.
Yes, lovely Aaliyah!
@TGJ Could you stop moderating my comments please?
@PLIO Destiny’s child not just Beyonce like S*** says.And you must be either young or clueless if you think that her album was flopping.DEAD!!!!No.2 on Billboard 200, her biggest debut ever, her biggest international seller, she was doing interviews everywhere in the world, talk shows, performances and she was HANDPICKED for these movies after getting rave reviews for Romeo Must Die.Mainstream media was all upon her and she was HUGE
@ASAP (As Sincere As Possible)
i agree with @beyfan u accuse @sh*t of startin a stan war that some other idiot instigated by bringin up Beyonce in this post in the first place the in stead of cooling things u make it worse by bashing Beyonce . mind you Beyonce was not desperatly trying to push survivor, that album dbuted with over 600k and independent women was at number 1 for 11 weeks , survivor peaked at no2 and bootylicious peaked atop billboard so DC was doin great and won BB artist of the year 2 years in a row in Aaliyah’s lifetime
Aaliyah was a great artist but its common practice when anyone dies, their slate is entirely wiped clean, their pros are exaggerated. worst is when u use their name to rubbish other artists. i wont stand for that
anywho i cant wait for the tribute. its nice to see a legend’s name on the list. Missy’s involvement is a no-brainer. i wish they’d gotten Ciara involved too, i dont know any other artist today that draws comparisons to Aaliyah but thats d start of another paragraph so i’l stop now
omg is Beyonce the only female in the industry why must her name come up in every post, it’s sickening. they never even had to compete as solo artists Beyonce was in a group. its sickening, every effin post B-E-Y-O-N-C-E
I cant believe am saying this but i think Trey Songz would be a great addition as a male artist, his appeal woulda matched Aaliyah’s but of course she’s nowhere as corny as him
@BEY’KNIGHT I already responded to that.The person who bashed them both was probably not an r’n’b fan so there was no point of responding.
@PLIO DC, not just Beyonce like S*** says.And you must be either young or clueless if you think that her album was flopping.DEAD!!!!No.2 on Billboard 200, her biggest debut ever, her biggest international seller, she was doing interviews everywhere in the world, talk shows, performances and she was HANDPICKED for these movies after getting rave reviews for ‘Romeo Must Die’.Mainstream media was all upon her and she was HUGE!Every single of hers slayed the radios (if you’re looking at Wikipedia info to determine success then you’re hopeless) and the TV networks.Everybody loved her.And if she wasn’t that huge, then how come she had 2 triple platinum albums, so many urban No.1’s, so much critical acclaim, a performance at the Oscars, praise by legends and huge international campaigns??DC were huge too, but don’t try to discredit Aaliyah’s success.She was slaying.
Seriously, I even changed my gravatar and the comment I am trying to post is still being moderated.All I wanted to say in that motherf****** comment was that DC were huge too, but you cannot discredit Aaliyah’s success.And her 3rd album was a success, debuting at No.2 (her biggest debut), her biggest worldwide seller, 2 back to back singles were being readied, everyone wanted her and loved her, she was doing interviews worldwide and she was HANDPICKED for those movies.She even did a campaign for Tommy Hilfiger.So how are you trying to say that Aaliyah wasn’t huge.If she wasn’t huge, then how come her BET tribute broke a record in the ratings and how come BET is paying a 25-day homage to her???She was a huge urban icon and that is proven if you simply look at VEVO.Her videos were posted some months ago and look at the views.If she wasn’t that huge, nobody would check her stuff out…Food for thought.
worst is when u use their name to rubbish other artists. i wont stand for that
_____________________________________________________________
Actually, the worst is when people like @S*** come to her YouTube videos, on blogs and on forums trying to discredit Aaliyah USING Beyonce.Beyonce cannot be compared to Aaliyah because her career began after Aaliyah died.We don’t know how Aaliyah’s career would be if she was still her and we don’t know how B’s career would be if Aaliyah was still here, so I don’t get why people INSIST on using Beyonce’s name to doubt Aaliyah’s legacy.If they don’t like Aaliyah they should at least respect her and that’s why I responded to @S***.
@ASAP (As Sincere As Possible)
k cool but u still needed to be called out for saying “Beyonce was struggling to sell survivor”
@ASAP (As Sincere As Possible)
@SH*T has his tendencies but in this case he is not in the wrong. look back oat the comments he was not the first to bring up Beyonce. its always Beyonce haters that bring her up 1st against other females living or dead. so if comparison occurs they should be blamed. if i have a deceased fav, i’d respect their name and keep it out of stan wars as much as possible
Aaliyah and her legacy will get all the respect in the world as long as Beyonce;s name is left out.
Dont act like Beyhive raided this post in an uncultured manner, look back on the comments
@BEY’KNIGHT I never said that only Beyonce fans start the wars.Actually, I have reached the conclusion that most of the people that bring up Beyonce’s name (not only here) don’t even like Beyonce, they just hate Aaliyah, so they use B to discredit her and that’s disrespectful.And all I’m saying is that we cannot compare Beyonce’s career (2003-….) to Aaliyah’s (1994-2001).Different eras, different circumstances, different label politics.When people start disrespecting Aaliyah and saying that she was not so huge, they should just take into consideration that BET has sold out for years but they still did a 25-day tribute for her this year.They wouldn’t do it for anybody.People were calling her the queen of urban pop back then and her songs are classics.Noone should try to doubt that imo.
@AALIYAH no you chill the f*** out, I don’t give a f*** what you’re saying I don’t know who you think you’re talking to ole bias ass so no you chill the f*** out I think you do NOT stan for aaliyah due to the fact, the album LACKED good promo d***-wade her third album sold WELL due to the fact that she didn’t have no live performances the first single didn’t do well at all she was flying back and forth to Australia and doing the matrix her mother and father were sick so PLEASE don’t bring the death cards into the s*** because if that was the case when left eye died her posthumous album would of did so much better than what it did PERIOD. If she wasn’t nothing BEFORE death why would she be something after death? you incoherent fool.. and AALIYAH was established dumb ass b****** she was in a movie and she had two PRIOR albums? aaliyah DIDN’T get a chance to ride out the third album ERA.. you claim aaliyah wasn’t that big? but BEFORE her death she was breaking records and being praised and LEGENDS wanted to work and praise her? so please dont say she wasn’t a big deal because she was everywhere and everyone knew her look at the WORLD WIDE sales of each album it increased each album you just being bias i don’t even think you’re an aaliyah fan get that s*** out of my face Im tired of hearing that s***… and y’all be the main ones f****** slandering her.
@VAEH Exactly!People forget easily and try to doubt her 10 years after.Her first two albums were both triple platinum and sold amazingly worldwide and Aaliyah wasn’t even mainstream.’One In A Million’ had no smash to sell off the back of and it still slayed.Aaliyah didn’t have to sell out to shift large numbers.She has a lot of classics that slayed on the radio but didn’t get to No.1 on Hot 100 because that was a different time.Labels were pushing the album, not the singles, so people were buying THE ALBUM!This is why I’m pissed of when these clueless people just click her Wikipedia page and try to bash her just because they don’t see smashes.Back then a classic song didn’t have to be a smash, so don’t try to say that she was a flop.How was she a flop when back then they were calling her the queen of urban pop???And all those people that went to her memorial service holding posters and crying???Did they just discover her after her death???NOPE!They adored her for years before she died and they were hardcore fans that still leave comments on YouTube, stil listen to her music and still support her AFTER 10 YEARS.
There are way better singers that they could have chosen to perform at the tribute. #Justsaying
@VAEH I didn’t understand half of your comment because it seems that the whole thing was just one, long sentence. It is NO secret that her album sales increased a lot after her death (+ 800%, biggest increase in sales history). Yes, she was known before her death, but don’t try making up things. Her death contributed some of the success of her third album.
Anyway, I don’t want to discuss this with you because you seem unable to write three words without calling me names. I am not here to argue or make stan wars.
@ s*** skip Beyonce if Aaliyah was here she would not be on top Aaliyah was well on her way to being the 21st century IT girl she had as many movie roles lined up before she passed that beyonce has been in until this day…i can go on and on all u can say is bey has more awards but when it comes to chart sucess and album sucess Aaliyah put up them same numbers in her day check the facts
UNIGUE TALENT GONE SO SOON.STILL LOVE YOU GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BY FAR IT WAS THE BEST FROM THE REST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MISS YOU ANGEL!!!
its about time!!!!
I LOVE YOUUUU SOO MUCHHHH AALIYAHHHH & i WILL BE MORE DHEN TUNED IN ON THRUS .
Citigroup earned 15 cents per share on revenue of US$25.4 billion. That easily beat analysts’ expectations of a slight loss, according to Thomson Reuters.
