As reported here, BET is set to honor late R&B songstress Aaliyah with a tribute special commemorating the 10th anniversary of her untimely passing.
BET reports the show, entitled Aaliyah: One In a Million, will feature commentary from Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Patti Labelle, Kelly Rowland, and more.
Fans can tune into BET on Thursday, August 25 at 8/7 central to catch the special. Until then, BET is already underway with a 25 day celebration (starting August 1st) celebrating the accomplishments of the ‘More Than A Woman’ singer.

It’s amazing how timeless her music is. All the records on One in a Million, Romeo Must Die songs, and Aaliyah album still sound fresh today! The industry hasn’t been the same, and many artists haven’t been the same.
Yes she is more deserving of a biopic than Amy, because Aaiiyah wasn’t looking for a way out. I love Amy, but she didn’t appreciate the platform she was given, if your depressed than WRITE and SING! There are so many artists who are forced to be pop and sing songs that are produced for them, but Amy had the power to say whatever she wanted and she squandered it.
Aaliyah’s death was/is hard to think about because girl was putting in the work, and was on her way to mainstream lock, but it was taken by forces beyond HER power.

im def gonna be down – been riding with aaliyah since high school 1999 and her debut album is a classic that i still bump til this day – so excited that she is getting honored – cant beleive its been 10 yrs already – i still remeber where i was when i heard the news of her death and i cant beleive it – she was a true triple threat – great singer actress and amazing dancer whose life was cut waaay to short – she was destined for much more but she is in God’s hands now and thats the best place to be.

I’m not sure If anyone still have the Vibe magazine with Aaliyah on the cover (the black and white pic) but Kelly and Bey both was talking about how they used to hang out and how sweet Aaliyah was. Beyonce also talked about how they used to make up crazy names for their food. Go listen to Jay-Z “I Miss You Remix” and Jay is saying how he’s also going to miss making up names for their food. Just because we never seen these people hang out together don’t mean they was not friends.

Chill the f*** out. I am an Aaliyah fan, but I can admit that her third album was NOT a huge commercial success at the time it was released. You know, in 2002, albums sold like crazy and unfortunately Aaliyah’s album wasn’t one of those. It was selling, obviously, but not as much people would have expected it to (being her third album). However, after her death, the sales of her album(s) increased a lot. I hate these hypocritical people who now suddenly like her because she died. It’s just like the media-thing with Michael Jackson. They have been trying to get him down for decades, and when he died, they suddenly were his biggest fans.. Anyway, I agree with @PLIO on this.

@VAEH Exactly!People forget easily and try to doubt her 10 years after.Her first two albums were both triple platinum and sold amazingly worldwide and Aaliyah wasn’t even mainstream.’One In A Million’ had no smash to sell off the back of and it still slayed.Aaliyah didn’t have to sell out to shift large numbers.She has a lot of classics that slayed on the radio but didn’t get to No.1 on Hot 100 because that was a different time.Labels were pushing the album, not the singles, so people were buying THE ALBUM!This is why I’m pissed of when these clueless people just click her Wikipedia page and try to bash her just because they don’t see smashes.Back then a classic song didn’t have to be a smash, so don’t try to say that she was a flop.How was she a flop when back then they were calling her the queen of urban pop???And all those people that went to her memorial service holding posters and crying???Did they just discover her after her death???NOPE!They adored her for years before she died and they were hardcore fans that still leave comments on YouTube, stil listen to her music and still support her AFTER 10 YEARS.

It is NO secret that her album sales increased a lot after her death (+ 800%, biggest increase in sales history). Yes, she was known before her death, but don’t try making up things. Her death contributed some of the success of her third album.
