In a statement issued by the family of the x-football player and actor confirmed that he passed on April 10.
He was 76.
Shared to his social media, the announcement read:
“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer.
He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.
– The Simpson Family”
Initially notable for his career in the NFL and subsequent transition into acting, Simpson became infamous after he was accused of killing his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.
Widely hailed as one of the most controversial trials of all time (and one that encapsulated the racial tensions in society more broadly), Simpson was acquitted.
Drama would continue to plague his later life, for he was found guilty of causing the deaths in civil court and he was incarcerated on charges of robbery in 2008. He was sentenced to 33 years, but was freed on parole in 2017.
