Future‘s latest album, ‘Mixtape Pluto,’ may reign atop the current Billboard 200 thanks to out-of-this-world total sales (overwhelmingly powered by streaming), but – when it comes to pure sales among the week’s new entries – it appears Katy Perry is Queen!

Shifting nearly 4 times as many pure sales as ‘Pluto,’ Perry’s seventh studio album ‘143’ – the week’s top-selling new album overall – dialed into the #6 spot on the updated Billboard 200.
And despite being her lowest opening position on the tally since 2008’s ‘One of the Boys’ arrived at #9, the attached total sales of her 2024 LP mark her highest since 2017’s ‘Witness‘ – keeping her career-long top 10s record intact.
The project – led by singles – ‘Woman’s World,’ ‘Lifetimes,’ and ‘I’m His, He’s Mine’ – saw its first-week sales figure aided by eight vinyl variants, a cassette tape edition, digital download variants (including deluxe and webstore-exclusive versions), and four physical CD editions.
Among all projects, only Chappell Roan‘s ‘Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess’ boasted higher pure sales with 56,000 units moved over the last commercial tracking week.

Katy was projected to potentially miss the top 10 entirely, but “fans effects” apparently propelled her all the way to #6 with no hit singles and no deluxe version on streaming or physical. Impressive. congratulations 🎉
She’s lucky that she even debuted #6 and sell 48k. I truly feel like this era is just a product of her and her team being incapable of reading the room. like absolutely no idea of what the public wants and currently likes, and it shows through everything regarding the era/album. because yes, even the music sounds and feels dated
Yeah, agreed. I’ve never liked her music, but I’d much rather have Katy charting on Billboard than Taylor Swift and Future. I seriously don’t get the obsession with Taylor Swift and why she sells so much. Her music is so boring, and she’s not exactly a good singer.
If woman’s world wasn’t the lead track, the album would of been received completely different
I think “All The Love” and “Wonder” are the most Katy-esque songs on the album but in general the Luke controversy was the rotten cherry on top.
Hope that she never works with him again, I’m a KatyCat since 2008 but this is a decision I can’t defend tbh. I still love her and am rooting for her, she also nails all of her latest live performances which is amazing to see. Probably the tour will save the era
I actually love the visuals for her 143 album/era even if it lacks anything new or super creative. If anything it come down to the music just being dull and a major step down from her past work. I think if the music was good most of the general public would have overlooked Luke being the producer. Many artists have had major hits with Luke post the Kesha controversy, including songs by Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj. When it comes down to it, Katy was a pioneer for pop music meant to appeal to the masses, she kind of set the modern standard, and to see her deliver something completely out of line and tired is sad. She should have aimed for something like Ariana’s Enternal Sunshine, a balance between personal/genuine and major pop tracks. Max Martin would have been a better choice for Katy over Luke it seems, and bringing back Bonnie McKee to help with lyrics and world building would have secured a solid comeback for her.
Yeah, but Doja Cat didn’t have a choice and Nicki married a ***ist herself, so people don’t really expect anything better from the latter. Katy probably wouldn’t be getting so much hate if she hadn’t stopped working with Luke for several years and admitted in her deposition that it would’ve looked bad at the time, then gone back to him as soon as Luke and Kesha settled out of court.
Had she continued working with him for Witness and Smile, I don’t think anybody would care about her working with him again for 143. It’s the fact that she stopped at the height of Kesha’s allegations and made two albums without him that made her a target once she started working with him again. She misjudged the public’s reaction to that and probably thought she could get away with it since Luke and Kesha settled out of court, Luke was never convicted of ****, and other artists had worked with him since (although, they DID get hate for it too).
Katy failed to read the room and that’s why she’s getting crucified. Is that fair? Maybe not, but this generation is pretty unforgiving when it comes to working with alleged abusers. If the music was better, sadly I don’t think many people would care that she worked with him. Most people offline don’t even know who he is. The music just isn’t great, so people aren’t willing to accept that as a justification for her bringing him on board.
Luke has lost his touch. This album sounds dated and boring. Katy should’ve just called up Max Martin instead. Max co-wrote one of the songs, but he didn’t produce anything. That’s the problem. Katy needed Max Martin and Bonnie McKee. Not Luke. Unfortunately, I think Katy truly believed she needed Luke to top the charts again after Witness and Smile’s performances. This is really a matter of her not believing in herself.
I thought the album was a fun dance-pop album. Although a bit generic, there’s a few bops on it.
Looks like she genuinely wanted to please her old fans and bring old 2010s pop back, but general public didn’t appreciate it.
We have been saying every single time abour her FLOPPING but havent yall realized that her projects are always judged according to her personality and not the music in itself? People love throwing rocks at her ever since from the beginning of her career and calling her a flop these days is pretty convenient and it’s what everybody was waiting years ago because it makes more money. Say what yall want about her but she truly doesnt give af cause her bank account will always be full and she is living happily with her family while yall are busy analyzing her career.
She clearly does care though, or she wouldn’t have worked with Dr. Luke again in an attempt to recreate her past success. There was literally no reason to work with the man again when she did two albums without him, meaning she’s not under contract with him. The fact that she ran back to him as soon as he settled his legal issues with Kesha out of court pretty much proves that she cares about getting a hit again to some extent. Katy could have worked with any other producer and she didn’t. There is no reasonable explanation for why she chose Dr. Luke if she wasn’t trying to recreate her past success and get a hit again. There just isn’t.
You guys overthinking this. Her mistake was working with Dr Luke and singing a song about female empowerment that he produced. She does have visuals. She wears the bubbles covering her privates. She is doing the butterfly thing. She is doing the flying in a portal surrounded by mystical fogs thing. She is unmatched with visuals. In her concert in AFL Australia, she was very unique with the visuals again.
48k is a damn flop no matter how you slice it and no amount of think pieces will change that.
