And while many-a-fan of some of music’s heaviest hitters like Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Ariana Grande have erupted over the placement of their favorite’s 2024 releases, many – like supporters of R&B star Normani (affectionately called #NormaniNation) – were pleasantly surprised to see their fave get some long overdue recognition.

This, especially after that surprising GRAMMYs snub!

On their ‘100 Best Albums of 2024‘ published Monday (December 2), the highly revered music magazine placed Normani’s debut album, the June-released ‘Dopamine,‘ at #32 – the highest ranking of any R&B effort that made the list.

Calling the project “an ode to the specificity of her Southern Black womanhood, with brassy horns, chopped vocals, Mike Jones samples, references to Pimp C, and Outkast…,” RS hailed the opus somewhat of a nod to the sounds of Aaliyah, Janet Jackson, and Destiny’s Child before her.

High (and well-deserved) praise indeed for the singer’s serially delayed debut album which was originally due on shelves in 2019.

Lined with the warmly received singles ‘1:59,’ ‘Wild Side,’ ‘Candy Paint,’ and ‘All Yours,’ ‘Dopamine’ outranked some of the year’s biggest R&B efforts on the RS list including Usher‘s ‘Coming Home,’ Muni Long‘s ‘Revenge,’ Kehlani‘s ‘Crash,’ Tinashe‘s ‘Quantum Baby,’ Khalid‘s Sincere,’ Tommy Richman‘s ‘Coyote,’ and more.

Do you agree with her placement on the coveted ‘RS’ tally?

I agree, Normani’s album is extremely underrated. It’s a great body of work, a concise 13 songs. The reason the album is underrated is because of the lack of promotion, performances, and music videos.

There are truly so many great songs on this album. Candy Paint, Insomnia, Still, and All Yours, etc.

    Muni long’s album is better.

      The LIES

The vocals alone take muni long’s album to heights Normani hasn’t reached yet.

Muni’s album has a handful of good songs. Many skips. Some songs straight garbage. Normani’s album has no skips! Not comparable

Agree Muni’s album is definitely better 👌🏽

    What a joke

  5. Uh December 3, 2024

Haven’t heard it. Seems like only the trash music gets promoted.

Dopamine ate. Too bad her and her team didn’t seem to believe in it

  7. Love Lies December 3, 2024

    Under rated album

I understand that the general is struggling to accept her issues with promo. If they can separate that from the album, they’ll understand why it deserves this title. From the moment I heard the album, I called it. The main reasons this album is done to the level of her trailblazers: are cohesion and production. 1. The body of work seamlessly flows. Even if we were to rearrange due to preference, not one song seems as if it doesn’t belong. The production is f****** top-tier! The levels and sonics etc💫 Then she coined and started her signature sounds (accents). She has songs that touch deeply/ emote. She has party bangers. Her pop joints mesh well with the overall theme. She took risks by going darker and slower. She pays homage while having progressive elements. There is mature content. Normani did her big one and I think she deserves a Grammy nomination for sure. Critically, this is one of the best debut albums I’ve heard, EVER! She low-key did us like Cardi B did us. I pray to God she finds her confidence and fights to properly promote it.

She must have paid them to say this

  10. Beyonce December 3, 2024

Her album was not good and underwhelming.
