2025 GRAMMYs: Doechii Makes HISTORY with the First Win of Her Career

Published: Sunday 2nd Feb 2025 by Rashad

With four first-time nominations to her credit, Doechii entered the 2025 GRAMMYs as a fan-favorite in her categories that includes the coveted Best New Artist honor.

While she lost the race in the Best Remixed Recording and Best Rap Performance lineups during the ceremony’s pre-show, she made history with her acceptance of the Best Rap Album trophy in its main show.

Details inside.

Presented by Cardi B (the award’s first solo female winner), Doechii defeated Common & Pete Rock, Eminem, Future & Metro Boomin, and J. Cole for the Best Rap Album win.

The first of her career, the victory marks the third time a female act has accepted the award following Cardi in 2019 and Lauryn Hill (as part of the Fugees) in 1997.

Unlike those acts before her, Doe is the first to collect the trophy for a non-studio album as it was bestowed for her breakthrough effort – the ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’ mixtape.

The milestone project home to her first solo Hot 100 entry: ‘Denial is a River.’

A student of Azealia Banks and Missy Elliott, some will say a copycat

All her singles are heavy influenced by them, like really

Ain’t no way she won and them not, that’s only due to lack of competition
