The four-time GRAMMY winner is set to portray trailblazing Tharpe in the biopic currently in development at Amazon MGM studios. Known as the godmother of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Tharpe’s genre-defying Gospel roots laid the foundation for legends like Elvis, Little Richard, and Chuck Berry.
The film, produced by Lizzo, Forest Whitaker, and Nina Yang Bongiovi will spotlight Tharpe’s revolutionary sound, passion, and a secret romance that challenged the era’s societal norms. ‘Rosetta’ is penned by Natalie Chaidez and Kwynn Perry.
