After the success of its inaugural showing with soulstresses Kelly Price, Fantasia, Marsha Ambrosius,and more, BET is ready for round 2 of ‘Black Girls Rock’ – a showcase (of) and ode to today’s brightest African American women in various disciplines. And with a bevy of big names joining this year’s line-up (including Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, and Erykah Badu), the star-studded affair looks to outdo its predecessor.
Though the event took place at Paradise Theater in NYC Saturday night (Oct. 15), its air date is set for November 6th on BET. Fans can see red carpet arrivals and photos from the show below:
Thanks IABG!
What about for White people? Oh no, that’s not allowed, I forgot. I thought the world had moved on from racial divides, obviously not…
Kudos to BET for doing that.It’s a cool event.
Now, most of the times I don’t bother with pictures.From what I saw briefly, all the ladies kept their own style and looked good.I’m just going to post about the one that surprised ME.MELANIE FIONA!!She looked SOO amazing on stage and everything from the vocals to the outfit was such a huge progression compared to ‘The Bridge’.She’s really starting to find herself when it comes to performing.GO GIRL!
Yea that’s what I said what about tha white people?!? Katy Perry, britteny spears, are pissed off here man
There are so many events for black people, yet none white, that would be considered racist, even though it isn’t. I find it racist against white people that there are things just for black people, that is discriminative. People want equality, yet things like this still exist? Can’t have it both ways.
Lol at these people bitching.
Black women aren’t celebrated enough, and it’s about celebrating their contribution to music. Nothing more, nothing less.
Black people are no different than white people. It’s called having double standards. White people contribute to music too, but are they celebrated? No. People need to get into the 21st century. And black people in general are definitely celebrated enough, trust me.
@TOM Black people are celebrate because they aren’t celebrated. No matter how many events there are promoting Blackness, modeling agencies and make-up companies will hire a white girl before a black girl. A white-washed pop song will get to #1 before a down home soul song. Barack Obama only won by 2%. BET exists because MTV wouldn’t play Black videos.
My point is: The western world is inherently racist against colored people. That’s just the cold hard truth.The Civil Rights Movement (with all due respect) changed the law, not the idealogical sentiment (for the most part). If these events for Black people didn’t exist, Black people would barely be celebrated at all.
“Tom,” you’re a live action dunce cap. Words can’t describe how ignorant and airheaded your posts are. Shut up before you embarrass yourself any further. LOL
(Black Girls) but Mary J. Blige is blonde or i’m wrong mmm…maybe. We are in 2011 get over it, I’m White but i love everybody, to me all girls are Beautiful Blacks, Whites, Latinas, Asian….
Some Black People are the first racist.
@Onyx
You tried…but failed. Mary J. Blige’s hair color has nothing to do with anything. Why don’t *you* get over it, and simply not watch the show idiot? “mmm”
@Hush
You must be Black, White people can’t say anything about Black people, because no matter what we say everything for you is wrong or offensive.
@Clark Smith
Barack Obama only won by 2%?
Obama won 52.9% of the popular vote to McCain’s 45.7%. He won by a 7.2 percent margin
I think it’ll be much closer though for the next election. It will be intresting though.
The best one 4 me is Jill Scott by miles. Absolutely love the hairstyle she got. Beautiful.

Hmmm, let’s see…
Taylor Swift won Grammy for “Album of The Year” over Beyoncé,
Dixie Chicks won Grammy for “Album of The Year” over Cee-lo,
Britney has a platinum certification for an album she couldn’t even sing live,
Denzel Washington did not win the Oscar for ‘Malcom X’
The Wire never got an Emmy for “Best Series”
Chris Brown can’t enter the UK but Sean Penn think he can school Obama…
You’re right, there are soooooo many cases of double standard.
But let me tell you how it works. When we Black people are happy, we celebrate. When we are sad or disappointed, we celebrate too. Celebration is our thing. we sing, we shout, we dance, we stan for our faves, we write stuff on blogs…Jeez, we DO celebrate too much ^^
Black people dominate music charts, haven’t you seen? And the western world isn’t as racist as you say it is. People have moved on, but others create conflict out of nothing. Want equality? Move on and stop dragging up the past and creating conflict out of nothing.
@MISHKA
Beyonce has 16 grammies though compared to 4 of Taylor.. I dont see the point your making..
She’s probs beat loads of white artists to earn those grammies. Your just picking a time when she didnt win.
Okay people can we all please be civilized?! There should be no reason why there is any issue with why BET (BLACK enterntainment television) is airing a program called (BLACK girls rock). I mean seriously it’s BET!!
If there was a White Girls Rock that would be fine too no big deal. Please let it go.
ITS SOME IGNORANT PATRONS ON THIS BLOG, TO THE POINT WHERE IT MAY NOT EVEN BE WORTH A COMMENT. TO SAY EVERYTHING IS CATERED TO THE BLACKS BASICALLY AND WHITES GET NOTHING? WHAT F***** ROCK DID YOU CRAWL OUT FROM UNDER.? SOCIETY AS A WHOLE IS CATERD TO WHITES. I JUST CAN’T WITH THIS WACK ASS BLOG
MAYBE YOU NEED TO FLIP THRU EVERY OTHER TV CHANNEL, THATS WHERE YOU WILL FIND ALL YOUR OTHER PROGRAMMING CATERED TO THE WHITES. GOOD DAY
LOL @ all these comments…..white people are not celebrated are you serious??
I wonder if any of these people care to comment on Asian blogs about whites not being celebrated? Don’t think so…..yeah pick on us blacks as usual as we are easy targets for you all.
I can’t believe these comments on OUR BLACK BLOG! I stopped reading mainstream (WHITE ) blogs because of all these ignorance and now these people are here??
I will NEVER feel sorry for whites as the world is their oyster and they control the media so get lost.
Mary J looks good. Love that outfit.
There is a double standard when it comes to race. There can be a black girls rock, asian girls rock, and latina girls rock and no one will think no harm.
But let there be a white girls rock, all Hell will break loose and the reason is is because White people have always had the upper hand in America and the minorities werent acknowledged; so now minorities are being acknowledged for their work, art, etc.
