With new song ‘East LA,’ two Black Eyed Peas stars will.i.am and Taboo join forces sans member apl.de.ap to toast the spirit of East Los Angeles and raise a glass to the area’s resilience and cultural pride.
“You would think that the idea of border control would make residents feel safe – but it’s pumped fear into our communities. They’re going after people that make our city beautiful,” said Will about the current administration’s immigration policies. “It breaks my heart. I wanted to make this video to change the vibe and celebrate the folks that make our cities great. The very same people who are being disregarded, dehumanized, and demoralized.”
Reimagining Santana’s unforgettable 1999 hit ‘Maria Maria,’ the song’s Friday (July 18) arrival was accompanied with a Sterling Hampton IV-directed visual.
