Published: Friday 18th Nov 2011 by David

The 2011 American Music Awards is gearing up to be quite the event.

With confirmed performances from the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Mary J. Blige, today the ceremony gave music lovers even more of an incentive to tune in.

For, in a bid to capitalize on the heavy press coverage his upcoming album ‘Take Care‘ is receiving, they have added the Rapper Drake to the line up.

Full story below…

Set to perform the cut ‘Headlines‘ lifted from the LP, the Canadian maestro’s performance at the show will come just days after the release of the project, which is expected to sell around 650,000 units figure this week.

Quite interestingly, he was added to the show’s line up at the same time as his newly found nemesis Ludacris was, which will be sure to give Hip Hop heads even more a reason to tune in the hope of a little ‘on screen’ drama between the pair.

The 2011 American Music Awards airs live rom the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE on Sunday at 8 p.m. on ABC.

No disrespect towards Mary J Blige but I am truly sick & tired of either her, Bee or AKeys being the representative R&B female act. Last year: JAZMINE SULLIVAN, MONICA, FANTASIA, CHRISETTE MICHELLE & KEYSHIA COLE released albums and definitely could’ve used the exposure on a show like this.

Based on the people you listed as confirmed acts, I’ll check out MJB then turn this off!

Damn! Who isn’t performing now?! Looks like the AMA’s is gonna be full of performances. Thats not a bad thing though, it will make the show go by faster which is definitely a good thing. Is there a host? Or are they just gonna wing it like they did at the AMA’s?! *shrugs*

I’m really not the biggest fan of Drake and I never think his performances are good so I’m not really looking forward to him. It irks my SOUL with those damn hand movements like he has tourettes syndrome but only in his hand. It’s soo annoying!

Actually I’m not checking for MOST of these performers although I can see why they’ve been chosen to perform….they all had really big hits this year. I’m only hear for one performer in particular so I just hope HE brings it. I could really careless about the others but I will watch incase there are any news worthy moments.

Oh…and everyone is trying to hype up this ‘beef’ between Drake/Luda/Big Sean but I SERIOUSLY doubt anything is gonna happen at the AMA’s. I doubt they will even speak. It is a bit ironic that they are all gonna be there though. *shrugs*

Um…..no offense but the AMA’s are a MAINTSTREAM Award show and none of the artist you name are ‘mainstream’ acts. Mary, Alicia and Beyonce are pretty much the only female r&b artist you mentioned that get a lot of shine in the r&b world, at least this year. Do you think that most of the people who vote for these shows even know who Chrisette Michele, Jazmin Sulivan and Melanie Fiona are? At these type of Award shows, if don’t make an appearance on Hot 100 then they get ignored.

Artist like Chrisette Michele, Jazmin Sullivan, Monica, Melanie Fiona and so forth, their best bet for recognition is like at the BET Awards, Soul Train Awards or maybe the Grammys but awards shows like the AMA’s, VMA’s and those other ‘mainstream’ award shows cater popular acts.

Plus I don’t think anyone really takes the AMA’s seriously. I mean hell, they have even put Rihanna in the r&b category! It’s basically just a popularity contest because the fans get to vote. *shrugs*

    Good Illuminati muppet!

@ VA – I fully know what this show is NOW. Years ago this show DID recognize less mainstream r&b artists with awards & performance opportunities. I’m saying that I wish this show like the grammies were more representative of all genres of music.

And yes, this show became a joke the year Timberflake won as best r&b male.

  13. jesse lopez November 18, 2011

JLO will slay this awards show for sure!!

p.s. drake looking like a gay assasin

  14. Bey’knight November 19, 2011

but the AMAs has always been based on chart/ commercial success and popularity. Their categories are best selling …..

The grammys are opp of that. Its not a promo platform for so-so selling artists no offense. Everyone cant be on d same level

  15. Xadax. November 19, 2011

Drake doing that hand sign hmm no one comparing this to Gaga?! Wait, she’s not even original so did they bother hitting MadamX on 08-09?
