@nichole, album sales are not what make people an artist of the decade. sales are important yes but its also about creativity, live performances, tours, radio etc. when people talk about MJ, they say he is inspiring not because of how much he sold but his creativity and great abilities as a performer. since whitney died, the emphasis has not been on how much she sold, but her talent and great vocals. people like usher, beyonce, chris brown, kanye west etc will be remembered as great performers which will make them legendary. britneys album sales are not inspiring

Why the hell is Britney Spears picture up when Michael Jackson is the winner? Michael Jackson will always be the greatest musical artist of all-time! Everyone else pales in comparison to the King of Pop. Even with him not being here he is still greater than the old and new artists.
No one is disputing if Michael is the KING of POP, of course he is! But since this list is for the years 2000-2012 supposedly, he certainly would not rank #1 if you’re using those years alone. So I´m glad he won, although speaking about true greats Mariah or Madonna (well a true great when we talk about success) had biggest hits and relevancy than Michael this last decade. This is such a farce. Although MJ is a legend and all, his relevancy during the 00’s was quite negligible. If he didn’t die, people wouldn’t probably stanning as much as they can now. Remember, during this period, his career was practically over, and the media has written him off. He was more like a circus oddity during this period.
If this was the best artist of the modern age of music, he would win, hands down as his influence paved the way for all of the artists we enjoyed now. But let’s accept the truth, his career was not in good shape during the 00’s, at all.
