The found of the iconic Valentino fashion house die at his home in Rome Monday (Jan. 19) surrounded by family and loved ones, according to a statement shared by his foundation. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday (Jan. 23) at the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri.
Valentino launched his namesake label in 1960 alongside longtime partner Giancarlo Giammetti, quickly becoming synonymous with timeless elegance and Hollywood glamour.
Over the decades, his creations adorned icons including Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren. One of his most celebrated moments came in 1968 when he designed Jackie Kennedy Onassis‘ wedding gown.
After a final Paris couture show in 2008, Valentino retired choosing to preserve and champion the art of fashion.
