Confusion encases Rihanna‘s eighth studio album, but the star is shrugging off the funk and pressing on.
In recent times, brand endorsements have kept her visible in ways that her music hasn’t and she’s now revisiting the movie arena to further keep her spotlight scorching.
Details on the Bajan sensation’s new film role below…
Director Luc Besson took to Instagram moments to announce that the 27-year-old has signed on to star in his latest flick – ‘Valérian and the City of a Thousand Planets.’
The noted French filmmaker was sure to tout that the model has a major role in the production, which hits theaters in 2017.
What’s it all about? The Sci-Fi flick follows time-traveling agent Valerian, who is sent to investigate a galactic empire, along with his partner Laureline. Actor Clive Owen and Cara Delevingne are set to star.

‘Valérian’ isn’t Rihanna’s first foray into the big screen arena. She’s has a somewhat patchy run; for example, while 2012’s ‘Battleship’ sunk like a brick at sea, this year year’s ‘Home’ fared better (making $386 million globally on a $135 million budget).
It’ll be interesting to see which of the success narratives ‘Valérian’ will take on.

I LOVE my Rih and I’m gonna support her success and future endeavors no matter what, but some of us need to STOP PRETENDING that a certain RELEVANT AND POPULAR artist doesn’t have a debut album that sold 3 million and is probably scanned at 4 million by now. Let’s not play get like that.

I’m not sure if she can act, nor do I know anything about this director. Therefore, I don’t know how I feel about this project. However, I’m happy to see that she’s continuing to craft her artistry and book jobs.

Sounds like a great movie! Not surprised at all! Her branding has been more than just her music for years now. Her album will drop and it will be epic. Furthermore I’m not understanding why any Ciara fan or Nicki fan for that matter has anything negative to say. Neither of your faves have had lead roles or better yet have received any kind of commendable certification musically recently.
