Dark, deep and ugly secrets swim to the surface in ABC’s ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ starring the dramatic force that is Viola Davis.
Now, after last night’s episode shocked its audience we decided to share our thoughts on what it served up..
Press play to catch a little of what the sixth episode of its second season has to offer with our estimation below…
Brilliant twists and turns aside last night’s episode stood as one of its strongest because of the riveting performance delivered by Ms. Davis and Ms. Keating.
In an interview with Charlie Rose to promote the movie ‘The Help’ Davis revealed that she believed African-American characters often lacked the complexity she seeks when searching for a role.
In ‘Murder’, Davis successfully dishes up a character who is just as cruel as she is kind swerving in and out a moral lane to protect and manipulate those around her.
Its performances like these (beyond its brilliant writing) that really sees this series stand tall above its competitors which dare we say includes its sister show ‘Scandal.’
As we’re pulled deeper into her world it becomes clear that Keating has built a family for herself made up of members with a need (or at the very least an awareness) of societal acceptance or maternal love.
There’s the working class Frank (perhaps the Munoz to Laurel’s Madonna) whose acceptance in polite society exists solely in the darkness in which he carries out the wealthy’s dirty deeds.
Then there’s Bonnie, betrayed by members of her biological family and now serves as the lawyer’s lap dog in exchange for a twisted yet comforting maternal nurturing the childless Annalise offers in abundance.
Put simply, Keating’s web of deceit traps and protects her nearest and dearest, keeping them right where she needs to be before she decide whether to save…or slay them.
Alas, if last night’s episode was anything to go by it seems it won’t be long before Wes finds out which of the two he’ll face for teaming up with her boyfriend to take her down.
@AnnaliseKeatingNewWig, TGJ finally took your advice.
LMAO about time! I was trying to pay this post dust cos I know David is trying to get back into my good books. But I like his opinion on this and he told no lies, so I’ll give him +1 point ????
This show is awesome. I just finished Season 1 on Netflix, and I will catch up on Season 2 this weekend. I don’t normally like legal dramas, but this one has me hooked.
