90’s hitmaker and star of TV One’s ‘R&B Divas: LA’ Michel’le Toussaint (known mononymously as Michel’le) is finally getting her day via the highly anticipated biographical film ‘Surviving Compton:  Dre, Suge, and Michel’le.’

Airing tonight at 8/7c on Lifetime, the flick – intentionally premiering during Domestic Abuse Awareness Month – not only tells of Toussaint’s rise to fame, but primarily focuses on her highly publicized, tumultuous relationship with rap royal Dr. Dre before and during his time with legendary rap group N.W.A.  And, while Michel’le was never mentioned in the group’s blockbuster biopic, ‘Straight Outta Compton,’ released last year, she asserts her cinematic venture will highlight aspects of Dre’s life ‘Straight Outta Compton’ left out.

While we at TGJ HQ will definitely have our popcorn at the ready tonight when the film premieres, we’re curious to know…

Will You Be Watching?

It should be noted Dre has vehemently denied Michel’le’s claims of abuse during their relationship, so much so he’s threatened legal action against the singer and Sony Pictures (the producers of the film).  Michel’le, in response, reportedly stated:

“I think my truth will stand when we get to court, if we do,” said Michel’le.  “We never were going to not tell the truth in this movie.  We did have him allow his attorney put that little, I guess, a disclaimer on there saying that Dre disputes any or all of my allegations that I was ever hit.”

Your thoughts?

    I don’t hardly ever make a comment on here…

    But I’m proud of her….
No matter the risk, she’s putting her perspective out there.

Props to her for that, I look forward to watching. X

Rhyon Nicole Brown SLAYED her performance as Michel’le! I was wondering who could do her unique speaking voice, and Rhyon Nicole Brown delivered…easily the best biopic I’ve seen on Lifetime…Michel’le was VERY honest…I’m being spoiler free, so I’ll just say WATCH IT! People sometimes forget how much of 90’s soul Michel’le helped pioneer…her melodies, riffs and ad-libs were so raw and REAL…key songs that precede Michel’le are Chaka’s I Feel For You (1984), Lisa Lisa And The Cult Jam’s I Wonder If I Take You Home (1985), and Janet Jackson’s Nasty (1986)…but Michel’le brought the rawness, pain and reality over hip hop beats…before Mary J blessed the world, there was Michel’le! And black don’t crack chile lol…she looks amazing

Dre was a drunk and Jealous mess.

Michel’le was raised to think taking a beating was apart of love in relationship BUT LORD her choices in bedroom were shocking.
You can see she loved Dre and I don’t think she ever loved Suge he just did sweet things to pull her in.
Hope this is a lesson to ladies

It was good! I just wish that she had got out of the relationship quickly as possible. Instead of staying. No man should put their hands on a woman, just as well as vice versa
