Ratings: Lifetime’s ‘Britney Ever After’ Biopic Flops

Published: Wednesday 22nd Feb 2017 by Rashad

After producing a string of hit biopics on popular female singers (see:  Aaliyah, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, etc.), many forecasted Lifetime’s latest effort – a film about the life and times of current pop superstar Britney Spears – would be a homerun.  Well, that was the case until they saw the almost parodic casting and shambolic trailer.

In addition, the pop princess the unauthorized bio was designed to depict gave the movie’s production a royal thumbs down.  The aforementioned (and the unforgiving Twitter slamming it suffered) all added to ‘Britney Ever After’ [which aired February 18th] being a ratings miss for the women’s network.

Details inside:

Viewership = 1.01 million

To put this into context, here are the ratings for the last four “female singer biopics” Lifetime has produced:

  • ‘Surviving Compton’ [‘Michel’le]:  2.3 million
  • ‘Unbreak My Heart’ [Toni Braxton]:  3.6 million
  • ‘Whitney’ [Whitney Houston]:  4.5 million
  • ‘Aaliyah:  Princess of R&B’ [Aaliyah]:  3.2 million

    I’m surprised it had that many ratings, y’all should be reporting those as good numbers because the way the movie was DRAGGED for its trailer ALONE, I didn’t think anyone would watch it. Surprised over 500k people watched.

    Didnt even know this shitt aired, But looks like they will stick with black stars, because thats the lowest ratings out of all their messy biopics

      Why bring race into this moron? Their biopics on Elizabeth Taylor and Anna Nicole had high ratings and the last time I checked those women were not “black stars”.

    I think a million viewers for a saturday night airdate is the opposite of a flop. That is a success. The problem with all of these biopics, except Toni’s, is that Lifetime did not get the celebrities to sign off and produce the films. Lifetime does not know the intimate details of a celebrity’s life. They only know the stories that are public knowledge so it is impossible for them to get the movies right. Britney obviously did not sign off on this music and why make a music about a singer when you cannot even incorporate the singer’s music in the movie?

      Biopics were aired on a Saturday and fared much better. So no…it’s a flop hun

    1.1 mil – they’re posting youtube numbers. Wow! If somebody could figure out how to monetize youtube to the same extent as broadcast and cable, youtube could take over.
