‘Insecure’ Season 3 Opens To Lukewarm Ratings

Published: Tuesday 14th Aug 2018 by Rashad

Did the #LawrenceHive make their presence (or absence in this case) felt after promising to boycott beloved Issa Rae HBO series, ‘Insecure’?

As the  backlash from news of the exit of “Lawrence” (Jay Ellis), Rae’s love interest in the show, grew so large on Twitter the actress even addressed it in a number of interviews (click here to read), longtime fans of the series were keen to see if the response would impact viewership.  And, while the furor over his departure cannot be pinpointed as the sole blame, ‘Insecure’s season 3 – which premiered on August 12th – did open to figures lower than anticipated.

Considering the critical acclaim that continues to surround the series, expectations were certainly high given the cliffhanger that brought season 2 to a close. Alas, its Sunday premiere drew in…

‘Insecure’ Season 3 Premiere

Viewership:  699,000

Ranking outside of the top 25 for the night, ‘Insecure’s season 3 premiere drew in a noted 400,000 less viewers than its season 2 premiere.

Here’s hoping the ongoing social media chatter about the hilarious show’s return will see numbers increase down the line.

Sorry to say that show isn’t about anything. There is really no story line. Last season was about her being a h**. The Lawrence character is irrelevant. Plus the show only last about 30 minutes gtfoh. It was cute at first but now cmon babygirl. I don’t see it anymore.

Its NOT a bad show. Actually, its entertaining. We have sisters/cousins/auntie’s who act like thots like these girls. I like the Lawrence love triangle. it was funny/intense and we have ALL had those feelings seeing an EX

Game of Thrones helped the ratings last year believe it or not. More people kept it on the channel when it went off thus helping Ballers and Insecure.

Not everyone has HBO, and the hiatus between seasons is far too long. I recently cut the cord, so I really have no way to watch it unfortunately.

Even though her & Lawrence broke up… we still wanted to see both of their journeys love & success… outside of them not being together anymore… they made the wrong move…

I agree. CheaP production with only two main characters. I think after 1st season it should have more characters and be 1 hour long episodes just like SATC transitioned from half hour hbo show to full hour hbo show starting 2nd season.

SATC never went to 1 hour episodes. It was always 30 minutes.

First off, in not too concerned with these statistics as I’m not sure if they can take into account viewership on non traditional platforms such as viewership whom watch the show via the HBO apps or Hulu for example. The show is still fantastic, however I think that if season four is picked up, which I believe it will, I think their writers room has to have a plan to bring the Lawrence character back, assuming they haven’t enacted a plan and perhaps are already working towards it now. I don’t think they realized how endearing and inspiring Lawrence character become to so many fans’, especially being played by an actor as great as Jay Ellis, and they have themselves to blame for giving us such a cool and we’ll respected character. For the record, I’m not worried about ‘Insecure’, HBO needs this show and the people involved in it especially Issa Rae not only as a writer but now as a legitimate leading lady. I suspect, we may see Lawrence again soon..
