Having already helped breathe new life into the classic ‘chick flick,’ ‘Steel Magnolias,’ with its 2012 made-for-TV remake, singer/songwriter/actress Jill Scott‘s bringing that same energy to the newest adaptation of one of the 90’s leading female empowerment films – ‘First Wives Club.’
The 1996 revenge comedy – which starred Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, and Diane Keaton – is being reborn in series form courtesy of BET+ (BET’s forthcoming subscription video-on-demand service). With ‘Girls Trip’ writer Tracy Oliver attached to the project, Scott reunites with her ‘Why Did I Get Married’ co-star Malik Yoba to lead an all-star cast which includes familiar names Michelle Buteau, Ryan Michelle Bathe, and more.
Ahead of its Fall 2019 premiere, look inside for its recently unveiled extended trailer:
I love Jill and I am so happy for her, but Hollywood needs some new ideas. They keep coming up with the same stuff but in a different way.
AMEN. Remake after remake. Nothing new. Nothing fresh.
No.
I was going to watch it, but I’m not paying for another streaming streaming service… “BET+” now ?
Why do we always have to do remakes of white movies? There’s alot of black movies that could be remade such as, abby a horror movie. “Coffee”. Let’s do it again” so on.
Enough of the remake of Rhea white movies. Make up your own s***! Black people need to know there own talented movies and culture again.
Great job ladies and gentlemen great spin on a great movie tackling some of real life issues. I love the show. The cast is amazing and depending on whether people are living in a professional career they might not be able to relate. Celebrate our people and the great acting. I would love to see more of their hidden talents displayed. Would love to see Jill Scott and Malik sing together.
