As we reported here, award-winning novelist Terry McMillan (famous for hit books ‘Getting to Happy,’ ‘How Stella Got Her Groove Back,’ and more) set the net alight in late 2020 when she confirmed rumored reports her book-turned-hit-film ‘Waiting to Exhale’ would be rebooted in commemoration of its 25th anniversary.
In the time since, two of the movie’s original characters – Loretta Devine and Angela Bassett – respectively reported interest in reprising their iconic roles roles.
Now, after ABC announced the updated edition of the story would land at its network as a TV series directed by Lee Daniels, McMillan is taking to press to reveal her vision for the series ahead of its premiere.
McMillan – hot on the promo trail last week for her latest book ‘It’s Not All Downhill from Here’ – visited ‘The Tamron Hall Show’ to discuss the new novel and her other ventures.
When quizzed on the status of the ‘Waiting to Exhale’ reboot, the 69-year-old shared (at the 6:25 mark):
“I think and hope some of the other members of the cast who are still with us will make cameos. They’re trying to recreate the essence of the story and not necessarily a reenactment of the story.”
Her tease of the forthcoming TV venture follows reports the new ‘Waiting to Exhale’ will not be a direct continuation of the original characters’ stories but more so tell the tales of their daughters.
As of time reported, no tentative release date is attached to the project.
