2022 Academy Awards Boast 56% Increase in Viewership Over Last Year’s Show

With moving musical performances, stunning categorical upsets, and the slap heard around the world among the reasons the 94th annual Academy Awards ws one of the ceremony’s most memorable yet, that combo has proven just the mixture needed to raise the ailing award show out of its multi-year ratings slump.

Details inside.

Viewership:  15.4 Million

Updated Nielsen data reveals the Wanda Sykes, Regina Hall, and Amy Schumer-hosted showing reeled in some winning numbers Sunday night (March 27).

Bouncing back from last year’s dismal figures (which rank as its lowest to date), the 2022 edition pulled in 15.4 million viewers according to preliminary reports.

Report:

“Apples to apples with the same metrics, that’s a 56% increase in audience over last year and 68% in the important demo. However, even with what looks like big leaps over 2021, the 2022 Oscars are still the second-lowest in history.”
Although not an out-of-the-park victory, the numbers are a glimmer of hope in the right direction.  What’s more, once DVR and live TV streaming data is calculated, those figures are expected to rise even higher.

The only reason the viewers was up was because they were able to confirm a performance by Beyoncé . Beyoncé is who really brought in the views for the Oscars
