Justin Timberlake-Led ‘Trolls 3: Band Together’ Opens to Whopping $100M at Global Box Office

Justin Timberlake may be battling blowback from damning content found inside the pages of Britney Spears‘ best-selling memoir ‘The Woman in Me,’ but the impact of that backlash did little to quell moviegoers from running out to see the third installment of the ‘Trolls‘ film franchise.

Dancing to theaters on November 17, ‘Trolls Band Together’ – which boasts a star-studded cast including Anna Kendrick, Anderson. Paak, Kenan Thompson, Camila Cabello, Troye Sivan, Amy Schumer, RuPaul, Kid Cudi, Zooey Deschanel, and others – generated $30.6 million at the domestic box office (making it the third-biggest opening for an animated film following the $146 million collected by ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ and the $120 million garnered by ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’).

“The opening weekend numbers [of ‘Trolls’] and audience scores point to a tremendous opportunity heading into the holidays,” said Universal’s president of domestic distribution Jim Orr in response to the fantastic figures.

Faring even better overseas, the Walt Dohrn-directed family flick has already made a whopping $76.3 million at the global box office – bringing its overall total earned to just over $107 million worldwide against the $95 million budget used to produce it.

2016’s ‘Trolls,’ the first of the film franchise, made nearly $350 million at the global box office for the duration of its stay. Its 2020 follow-up, ‘Trolls World Tour,’ was negatively impacted by the pandemic and only collected $48 million total.

Lol u Britney and Janet stans are so funny! How did it tank if it came in second place and already made its entire budget back in One weekend?!

It’s believed that a movie has to make twice its production budget before it can be considered profitable, and that doesn’t even factor in the promotional budget. All that said, Trolls 3 is not off to a bad start.

Which means if it already made equal in its original weekend it’s likely to make at least 1.5 if not 2.5x by the time all is said and done.

ps – a film’s budget DOES include marketing, promotion, and salaries of cast & crew!

They watched it because of Camila and RuPaul not Justina Timberlake.
