With a year that saw some big box office winners, none quite conquered like ‘Barbie.’ The movie was released on Jul 21 and was an instant hit.

In its first weekend the movie, which stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Dua Lipa, Will Ferrell, Issa Rae and more, earned $155 million at the U.S. box office. As a result, it became the biggest opening weekend ever for a movie directed by a woman.

Globally, the film earned $337 million in its first weekend. By the time the second week rolled around, the film already neared $1 billion globally. However, the film would cross $1 billion.

The movie closed out the year by becoming Warner Bros. highest-grossing film of all time when it crossed the $1.342 billion at the global box office. That number was not adjusted for inflation though.
