As murmurs of a new ‘X-Men‘ film keep Marvel lovers on the edge of their seats, whispers of who could and should assume the role of Storm – one of the franchise’s most iconic characters – has ignited many-an-argument among avid followers of the comic and its spinoff series.
And while the likes of Chloe Bailey, Angela Bassett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Janelle Monae, KeKe Palmer, KiKi Layne, Jayme Lawson, and Teyonah Parris are among the names fans seem most interested in assuming the position, actress DeWanda Wise is also counted as a frontrunner in the debate.
Advocating for herself, Wise – while hot on the promo trail of her new movie ‘Imaginary‘ – put a bid in to reiterate her desire to bring the Mistress of the Elements back to screens.
In a recent interview with The Movie Dweeb, Dewanda didn’t hesitate to express her interest in playing Storm.
“[Storm] is the only Marvel character I’m interested in…it’s the only Marvel character I’ve ever been interested in. I think we’re going to single-handedly make that happen,” she said (as seen in the clip above).
While Marvel Studios is said to have an ‘X-Men’ film in the works, no updates have been made about casting (as of time of this report).
Whoever nabs the role, we can’t help but hope future representation and depictions of Ororo Munroe (aka Storm) aligns closer to her historical presentation in comics and cartoons (i.e. complexion, vocal resonance, etc.) than what we’ve seen on film over the last 20 years.
Everybody think they can be Storm just because they have the skin colour. If Halle Berry didn’t do a good job why do you think you can? Anyway I prefer Halle.
What a goofball. Marvel has literally scrapped people in roles because of them blabbing. You let the company announce officially. She has shot herself in the foot like this. Trust she will not be cast now.
Also, Black women need to do better. Storm is NOT the only Black superhero!
Why is nobody campaigning to be Bumblebee from DC and have a solo film?
Fake comic fans. You don’t even like Storm. You just want a career boost.
