For as much success as Bobby Brown has achieved, hardships have unfortunately been a defining aspect of his narrative.

During his marriage to the late great Whitney Houston, the GRAMMY-winning performer embraced a “bad boy” persona that very much played out publicly.

Court visits were a constant and soon drug addiction plagued his and Houston’s image.

In the decade since, drugs especially have led to tragic losses for Brown – who has lived to witness the deaths of Houston, their only daughter Bobbi Kristina, and most recently his son Bobby Brown Jr.

In a new appearance on Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett Smith, Brown opens up about the tragedies as well as his later addiction to alcohol.

He said:

“[Because of] alcohol, I started losing bodily function. My body started shutting down because I was drinking that much.

My body just was giving out on me. Even with alcohol, I got to the point where I needed it.”

I wasn’t getting drunk anymore. I wasn’t getting a little tipsy anymore. I needed it to wake up. I needed it to stop the shakes, to function on a day-to-day basis. For me, it wasn’t recreational.”

The reasoning has long been debated and yet no definitive rationale has ever been provided.

And while she’s previously expressed contentedness with the scope of her role (noting that she allegedly receives more than some actual Housewives), it looks like the fashionista is ready to be formally upgraded.

Naya Rivera may be gone, but she is far from forgotten.

On March 8, the cast of ‘Glee’ came together to honor the late actress at the GLAAD Media Awards. The performance was introduced by Demi Lovato and honored the 10-year anniversary of her character Santana‘s coming out.

The special performance included several famous faces, including: Jane Lynch, Amber Riley, Darren Chris, Heather Morris, and others.

Rivera’s mother, Yolanda Previtire wasn’t able to join in on the tribute, but she did share a message:

“Naya would be honored to receive this recognition. When Naya was told that Santana would be a lesbian she called me to let me know and I asked her how did she feel about that and she said ‘I feel great about it!'”
