As the world of TV and Film struggles to develop original concepts, today’s Retro Rewind sees us salute HBO for its continued to efforts to do just that.

In 1997, Richard Guay and Valerie Thomas produced the project ‘Subway Stories: Tales from the Underground’, a release which told the real stories of New York city subway users.

Enamoured by its grit and soul, HBO picked up ten of the stories and retold the stories with help from a number of gifted entertainers.

One of these was Taral Hicks.

Indeed, beyond her otherworldly success as an artist, Queen Bey has made quite the mark on the big screen in films such as ‘Dreamgirls’ and  ‘The Pink Panther.’

Such is her pull the director of the ‘Lion King’ live-action remake is reportedly committed to securing her for the film.

‘Scandal’ is back!

Following a longer than planned hiatus (to accommodate Kerry Washington‘s pregnancy), the show picks up right where it left off – with fireworks!

Forming a central part of the revived TGIT (Thank God It’s Thursday) block of programming, the political drama promises (and is already delivering) many an explosive twist and turn for its sixth season. Election, anyone?!

Shortly after revealing actor Jamie Foxx was on board to host their ‘Name That Tune’-esque game show titled ‘Beat Shazam,’ the network has lifted the lid on news they’ve tapped ‘Watch What Happens Live’ host Andy Cohen to be the face of another rebirthed/reworked series:  ‘Love Connection.’

‘No Limit’ leader Master P is next hip hop hitmaker in line to see his life story adapted to the screen.

The New Orleans rapper, whose rags to riches story saw him amass a collection of platinum plaques across 75 million records sold, Billboard hits galore, fame, and fortune along the way, is now turning that tale into a full length feature film titled ‘Ice Cream Man:  The King of the South.’

And, to ensure the project is a success, P has tapped another rap royal to assist:  Queen Latifah…

Oprah Winfrey once referred to historical figure Henrietta Lacks as ‘the woman history tried to silence.’  For retribution’s sake, O teamed with HBO to bring Lacks’ remarkable story to life via an April 22-due made-for-TV biopic (as we reported here).

But, less than a month before its air date, members of Lacks’ family are saying Winfrey and co. are dishing them a fate similar to that of Henrietta’s –  trying to silence them and taking advantage of their family’s legacy.

The ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’s original “Aunt Viv,” actress Janet Hubert, wants you to know she has approximately no time or interest in reuniting with her former castmates in any capacity.

As we reported here, the show’s surviving cast reunited for a heartwarming photo recently at a charity event.  If the invite was extended to Hubert, we don’t know.  But, what we do know (if her recent Facebook rant is anything to judge by), she would’ve declined had the invitation been extended.

Referring to Alfonso Ribeiro [“Carlton Banks”] as a “media hoe” and “ass wipe,” read her fiery words for him and the rest of the cast below:
