February 11th 2012

Sadly, this date will stay a crucial one, not only for the music industry alone but the world at large. For, that fateful day last February saw the silencing of iconic songbird Whitney Houston – aged just 48.

Although it is still incredibly difficult to come to terms with the tragic loss, we dedicate this week’s From The Vault to the most impressive vocalist in recent memory and arguably of all-time.

The haunting ‘Run To You’ from 1992’s monumental ‘Bodyguard OST’ is a vocal tour de force and stands as an ever-enduring  masterpiece as well as a masterclass for any and every singer that followed. Its accompanying video beams iconic shots of an angelic Houston “running to us” in an immaculate setting – shots, in light of recent events, make for emotional viewing.

As words could not describe the immensity of her talent and statistics could not measure the enormity of reach, we figured it be best to let the music speak for itself.

Whitney Elizabeth Houston, we thank you for sharing your God-given talent with us. You will forever be The Voice. Rest In Peace.

It’s been a week since Destiny’s Child‘s epic reunion at the Super Bowl Half-Time extravaganza, yet the masses are still buzzing about the trio’s showing. And understandably so.

It’s been nine years since Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams released their last studio album ‘Destiny Fulfilled’, however it’s clear they still have “it” in abundance. Last Sunday’s performance relayed this in earnest, but new backstage footage following their showing re-affirms it.

The Pop pair struck a pose at the Soho House affair, one day before they meet again at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards where Bey will serve as presenter and Rih as performer.

Marking the first time they have been spotted together since 2011, their sighting also comes before they both embark on respective world tours in the coming weeks, with Rihanna launching the ‘Diamonds World Tour’ while Beyonce delivers ‘The Mrs. Carter Show‘.

Melanie‘s done it again.

Extending her lead as one of her genre’s strongest competitors (in all respects), the soulful starlet delivers a moving video for her single ‘Wrong Side Of A Love Song’ tonight, hours before she arrives at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards.

If you’re unfamiliar with Melanie’s work, we seriously recommend you watch the video and take the time to listen to her music- which would be far more popular if it was given the financial backing both she and her talent deserve.

In epic credit to her handlers, Jennifer Hudson‘s star has shone brighter with each year since her Oscar winning turn in ‘Dreamgirls’ seven years ago.

Ironically, though, this has been in parallel to the unremarkable performance of not one, but two studio albums on the charts. The singer’s 2008’s self-titled managed to go Gold, yet it’s follow-up, 2011’s ‘I Remember Me’, failed to connect with listeners and to-date has only sold 370,000 in the US.  Hoping to right those wrongs, the great Clive Davis has taken the helm of Hudson’s third project.

Having orchestrated much of the late Whitney Houston‘s success, can the industry icon have a similar effect on a career in much need of it? Flip the hood to read his plans for Hudson’s new album in an exclusive interview with Billboard….
