Before there was a GaGa came  a Britney.

Joining Madonna and Janet to become as synonymous with ‘epic’ music videos as Prince was with interchangeable lead singers in the 80s.

An icon of an era where the premiere of a music video was just as anticipated as a sell out tour, Britney Spears was undeniably as integral to MTV’s success as it was to hers.

However, recent years have seen the ‘Toxic‘ entertainer unable to live up to both the creative and commercial highs that made her the icon many agree that she is today.

So we want to know….

Is Britney Spears really worthy of an MTV Tribute?

In a bid to perhaps add some pepper and spice to her tasteless ‘Femme Fatale Tour’, Britney Spears has made the ‘lapdance’ a staple of her stage show.

With boyfriend Jason Trawick a recent recipient of her faux-Janet antics, it was Jersey Shore‘s Pauly D who was the latest during the trek’s Montreal stop last night. Check out how Ms. Spears fared after the jump…

Leona Lewis may have been out of the limelight for a minute, but that hasn’t stopped her from experimenting with her image.

For after unveiling a bold new look earlier this year, the ‘Bleeding Love’ singer decided to make another change this week – debuting a new shorter do.

A length of hair or lack-thereof aren’t the only headlines the Londoner has been making as of late. ‘Collide’, her new single, has resulted her label being taken to court for plagiarism. Worse still, a video shot has been shot; yet, in light of the on-going legal drama, and slow radio play, prospects aren’t great. Perhaps, back to the drawing board? Based on the comments of TGJ’s readers, it seems the masses agree.

Ironically one of Girls Aloud most anticipated members despite only going it solo months ago, Nicola Roberts has welcomed her latest video ‘Lucky Day’ to the world.

In support of her debut album ‘Cinderella’s Eyes‘, the visual follows the release of  her debut solo single ‘Beat Of My Drum‘.

Team Britney will have more than enough reason to smile today. For it seems that despite her ‘interesting’ showing at the 2007 Video Music Awards, MTV still holds Ms. Spears very close to its heart.

It has been confirmed that she is to be honoured for her contributions at this years ceremony.

For years, the debate surrounding light skin and dark skin has raged on in many a spectrum – not least Popular music.

While the musical landscape boasts a multi-ethnic presence, some maintain a stance that success in Pop is unevenly orientated towards acts with fairer complexions. Indeed, one look at the charts arguably lends compelling credence to such statements.  For, with every Fantasia, Kelly Rowland, Jennifer Hudson, there exists the more successful Beyonce’s, Rihanna’s, and Alicia Keys’ of the world; artist’s whose success is oft built on the ability to “sell” them.  Which begs the question: is the music industry bias towards light skin acts?

As such, in our quest to continually push the envelope, That Grape Juice took to the streets of Hollywood to hear what the masses had to say on the matter. This, ladies and gentleman, is…’The Word’.

Rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West‘s latest joint album ‘Watch the Throne’ is, as expected, finding major success on worldwide charts – with the latest reports indicating its reign over 23 charts all over the globe.  With strategic marketing and an unprecedented (of recent times) avoidance of early leaks, the album is on track to be a big seller boasting nearly a half million first week sales.

But, while Jay and the hip-hop community are no strangers to joint albums, MTVNews sought to weigh the impact of this most recent effort with the question:

Will there ever be a pop duet album?

‘And I’m Telling You’ singer Jennifer Hudson told off a fan on Twitter today, engaging in a fiery exchange when a follower questioned the singer’s recent weight loss and made comments about fiance David Otunga.  Hudson, who just celebrated the birthday of 2-year-old son David Otunga, Jr. yesterday, may be known for serving up hits and show-stopping performances, but this time she served just a tad more.
