The incredibly versatile Janelle Monáe performed at the 2010 ESPY Awards recently. The singer took part in a hilarious sketch alongside comedy legend Will Ferrell, doing a rendition of Roberta Flack’s classic ‘Tonight I Celebrate My Love’. Check out the jokes below:

John Legend and The Roots have teamed up on a politically charged new album called ‘Wake Up!’. The record, which will hit stores on September 21st, will feature contributions from Melanie Fiona and Common as well as a cover of Marvin Gaye’s ‘Wholy Holy’.

What do you think of the cover?

There appears to be no stopping Katy Perry; the Pop starlet’s smash ‘California Gurls’, this week, extends its #1 reign on the Billboard Hot 100 to six (consecutive) weeks.

The impressive feat has seen Perry fend off competition from Eminem and Runway Rihanna‘s ‘Love The Way You Lie’ – which has had to settle for the #2 spot on the chart for three weeks in a row now. (Side note: Am I the only one who considers ‘Love The Way You Lie’ uber overrated anyway?)

Other notable Hot 100 movements include Nicki Minaj‘s ‘Your Love’ – which jumps #23-#18,  Ciara‘s ‘Ride’ – which climbs #50-#45, and Ne-Yo, who’s ‘Beautiful Monster’ ascends #60-#56.

Peep Kelly Rowland posing it up for SWRV Music Choice recently. As ever, the Grammy winner looks stunning!

Reiterating our previous report; the release of her hotly anticipated new album has been re-scheduled. Initially set for a September release, Rowland confirmed that the LP – her 3rd – will instead be arriving in stores ‘this Fall’, as she’s still recording with hitmaker Tricky Stewart. There’s also some talk about the album no longer being self-titled. So,  as you can see, much going on in the world of Ms. Rowland.

Meanwhile, the album’s lead US single, ‘Grown Woman’, is poised to be a smash – if its ever-rising Urban airplay is anything to go by. Go Kelly!

After raising eyebrows earlier this week with her Birthday appearance at Millions of Milkshakes, Lil’ Kim went for a slightly more demure look at her concert at The Rrazz Room in San Francisco on Tuesday (July 13th). She looks good.

Despite her ‘Bionic’ album being certified Double Plastic, Pop diva Christina Aguilera is pressing on with new single ‘You Lost Me’. The haunting clip is set to première on July 20th (next Tuesday), however you can now view these exclusive stills from the video – courtesy of our friends over at PopEater above and below…

It’s great to see Ms. Aguilera doing her again, leaving the Lady GaGa outfits and shock-tactics to…Lady GaGa.

Reclusive Britney Spears was spotted entering a Los Angeles recording studio yesterday (July 14th). While there has been much talk surrounding the singer’s 7th studio album, this marks the first time the mother of two has been confirmed to be recording new music for the project.

One can only hope the spark which once characterised the Britney of yesteryear returns this go round. For, as demonstrated with her last two albums (‘Blackout’ and ‘Circus’), the problem is by no means her material, rather her lacklustre performances. Spears was unceremoniously slammed for her 2007 MTV VMA ‘Gimme More’ performance, yet continued to churn out wickety-wack live showings on TV and tours – only this time to mass-praise (no doubt due to her commercial ‘comeback’). Music industry hypocrisy at its best.

In any case, we’re all rooting for Ms. Spears. Here’s hoping she silences the critics.
