Another song from Amerie’s latest LP, ‘In Love & War’, has surfaced today. That track, which has been getting a lot of buzz from her fans, is titled ‘Swag Back’ and was produced by Jim Jonsin, the production mastermind behind  TI’s ‘Whatever You Like.’ The songstress’ album officially hits stores on November 3rd.

I liked this song. It’s definitely radio-friendly and has the kind of beat that’s made for car speakers. The melody works well with her crisp vocals and she does not get lost in the productions – a problem that affects many of today’s artists who sacrifice their voices in favour of club-ready singles (I’m not calling any names, just initials: KH).

My only problem with the song is that the melody sounds almost exactly like TI’s ‘Whatever You Like.’ Usually I am not a fan of recycled tracks but I think she managed to pull it off really well. Good stuff.

As R&B diva Mary J Blige prepares for the release of her 9th studio album, ‘Stronger’, on December 15th, the track that she recorded for another of her highly anticipated projects has surfaced. The track, entitled ‘I Can See In Color’, will serve as the theme song for the upcoming move ‘Precious’, which will debut in theatres on November 6th.

There is a reason why Mary J is known as the ‘Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul’ and I think after listening to this track, everyone will know why. Her vocal delivery, though not pitch-perfect like many of her contemporaries, is raw, powerful and gritty yet relatable and honest. I can’t think of a single song on the radio today that has moved me the way that this track has after listening to only the first 60 seconds.

To be honest I was a bit upset that Mariah Carey’s ‘100%’ was replaced as the film’s official theme song but now that I’ve heard Mary J’s offering, I have no further quarrel. It definitely has my vote for ‘Best Original Song’ at next year’s Academy Awards. Sheer Brilliance.

Peep 50 Cent and Kelly Rowland getting close in this preview for the G-Unit general’s video for ‘Baby By Me’, the lead single from his revamped ‘Before I Self Destruct’ LP. While I could care less for ol’ Curtis, this is such a good look for Ms. Kelly. Multiple different looks and everything – in all of which she stunning. More power to her!

Video premieres November 2nd!

Beyonce and Lady Gaga, undeniably two of music’s biggest stars, can’t seem to get enough of one another these days. As well as recently shooting the video for Beyonce’s top-secret ‘Video Phone (Remix)’, it has been confirmed today that the pair also teamed up on ‘Telephone’ (see a pattern emerging?), a new track lifted from GaGa’s forthcoming ‘Fame: The Monster’ album re-release. {Source}

Perhaps more than any of Bouncy’s previous collabo’s, this really does seem like a winning-ticket if there ever was one. Cannot wait!

With Usher’s ‘Papers’ still keeping many a folk talking, a new Red One produced cut – said to be from his forthcoming LP – has surfaced in the form of ‘Rockband’. Noteworthy most in that it is not a very ‘Usher’ type track, I must say I’m really feeling this one….a lot. With its pulsating R&B production and slinky Dance undertone, I found instantly likeable, and upon a few more plays mildly addictive!

It goes to show, the shock tactics and theatrics (see: ‘Papers’) aren’t what makes a hit; it’s simply good material. Usher’s as yet untitled LP is set for release December.

R&B star Chris Brown has just announced via his official Twitter page that his album, ‘Graffti’, will be released on December 15th. The first single for the project, ‘I Can Transform Ya’, has thus far peaked at #27 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #16 on the Hip-R&B Charts. The singer/songwriter also noted that the video for the single will debut tomorrow, October 26th.

This is quite interesting as both Alicia Keys’ and Mary J Blige’s albums are scheduled for release on the very same day as Chris’. It’s safe to say that Chris’ label are confident that, not only will he able to capture public attention, but he’ll also be able compete with two of music’s biggest sellers. Indeed, ‘I Can Transform Ya’ continues to make major moves up the charts, whereas Alicia’s ‘Doesn’t Mean Anything’ is struggling to make it past #61 on the Hot 100, and Mary is nowhere to be seen. This is shaping up to be a very exciting show…where’s my popcorn?!

Janet-Jackson-Harpers-Bazaar-US-October-4

In a recent interview with MTV, super-producer Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins revealed new details about Janet Jackson’s much anticipated new studio album, which he’s working on. Peep the full report below:

When we caught up with producer Rodney Jerkins on the VMA red carpet in September, he was already hard at work on Janet Jackson’s next studio album. Now the super-producer is opening up a lot more on exactly what fans can expect for Janet’s 11th studio album.

Janet is like my sister now,” Jerkins told MTV News on Wednesday (October 21) at his Los Angeles recording studio. “We definitely have this incredible chemistry, this bond — I think we musically connect, crazily. I knew it — it’s funny ’cause I predicted this. Five years ago, people used to ask me who I wanted to work with, and I was like, ‘Janet Jackson.’ And I was so passionate about that because I’ve always been a fan of her music and what her and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis have done in the past. And I felt like, knowing she wants to try new things, that I feel I can get it and I can deliver it for her,” he said.

DarkChild explained that fans can look forward to an emotionally driven album.

“Since we’ve been working … I feel like the studio has become a second home for her because with the whole situation with Michael [Jackson] happening, and I feel like right now, emotionally, she can come here and let all her feelings out. I got her writing again — she has the pen and the pad in her hand.”

But it’s not just the recent passing of her brother Michael that is fueling the content of Jackson’s album. Fans are going to see a side of Janet that they’ve never seen before, thanks in part to Rodney’s persuasion.

“You gotta understand, she lost her brother. She was in a relationship for seven years that’s over now. There’s things that she told me that I didn’t even realize. You know, certain [things] like self-esteem that I didn’t even realize that she dealt with for years that you know. … She’s working on her book and she’ll deal with that in her book, but also in songs, certain songs we’re dealing with that head on. And sometimes it can be a touchy subject for us to even go into, and I kinda had to persuade her, ‘Let’s just go, let’s talk about that.’ And she’s been doing it, and she’s a pro about it.”

Although Rodney says you can expect some up-tempo dance tracks on the new album, it won’t have the futuristic sound we heard on her last project, 2008’s Discipline.

“It’s funny, ’cause when we just started the project, she was like, ‘I wanna do 10 dance records, all up-tempo to dance. Let’s just go dance,’ ” Jerkins said. The sound is inspired by worldwide influences, from African rhythms to Brazilian and Latin music, and RJ said we can expect features on this album like a Pitbull track that was recorded last week.

“But she hits me today and she says we need to do some mid-tempos as well,” Rodney continued. “And I’m glad for that because there’s a time when you listen to a record that you wanna mellow out and she always gives us those great smoothed-out mellow records. So now that she’s in that zone, it’s like ‘Yes!’ ’cause we can focus on that. But I’m still gonna keep the beats hard underneath ’cause she’s still a dancer at heart.”

Jenkins and Jackson co-produced her recently released single, “Make Me,” which will be included on her greatest-hits compilation Number Ones, due in November. A release date has not been announced for her yet-untitled studio album.

To say I can’t wait would be an understatement! I really feel this will be the album we’ve been waiting on Janet for – a largely up-tempo record with qualitative lyrical content. Roll on 2010!
