Shawn Mendes may have missed the top 40 with the debut of his latest single, the dreamy ‘Summer of Love’ (which premiered this week at #48 on the Hot 100), but the Canadian heartthrob is still moving full speed ahead with its promotion.

“I hope this song makes people feel free, free from the weight of life, even if just for a moment,” Mendes said of the song in a statement. “The inspiration was getting a few months off to have a real summer with the people I love. My favorite part about creating it was getting the opportunity to work in the studio with Tainy. It was a special experience connecting with him since he’s such an incredible artist and amazing producer.”

In addition to a hitting up iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, and more over the past two weeks, Mendes has unveiled a behind the scenes look at the creation of the tune’s Tainy-assisted music video.

Filmed in Mallorca, Spain, look inside to see how the magic of Shawn’s Matty Peacock-directed ode to summer came to be.
