Because this generation boasts few female stars who can hang with the likes of Chloe Bailey and Tinashe on stage, it’s not uncommon for fans of both ladies to compare the prowess of their performance abilities.

Janelle Monáe has never shied away from using her platform to protest injustice but, as evidenced by her new song, “Say Her Name,”  she may be bolder than ever now.

Alongside over a dozen other Black female activists, Janelle’s joined forces with the African American Policy Forum for her new socially conscious tune to serve as an anthem to honor Black women and girls lost at the hands of law enforcement.

The follow-up to her 2015 release, “Hell You Talmbout,” Monáe uses “Say” as a measure to tribute over 60 Black women and girls by chanting their names throughout the song.

Speaking on “Say,” Janelle told the press:

“[I want to] bring more awareness to what has not been covered and to also allow their families an opportunity to be able to hear people sharing their stories about their daughters as the human beings they were and as the daughters they were.”
