R&B star Keri Hilson dropped by Jimmy Fallon Live last night to perform new single ‘Slow Dance’. Backed by a full band (which included The Roots), Ms. Keri did a great job with this performance. While I would have liked to see more in the way of a ‘performance’ (ala her rendition of the song on tour, with dancers, a serious routine etc), she really held the fort with this one. The band rocked, her vocals for the most part were great (though she seemed like she was in pain getting them out) and she’s showing real progression as a live performer. Good stuff.

American Idol season 6 winner Jordin Sparks stopped by The Jimmy Fallon Show to perform her current single ‘Battlefield’. Ms. Sparks nailed it. Great song, great vocals, great performance!
Jordin’s album ‘Battlefield’ is out now!

Solange has stayed promoting her sophomore effort ‘Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams’ since it’s release last August, last night taking a break from her tour with Estelle to perform current single ‘T.O.N.Y’ on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
Put simply, great song, great performance!

In an interview conducted last week, Jimmy Jam, of legendary production duo Jam & Lewis, revealed that he is currently working on the new Janet Jackson album. While not much else in the way of specific info was conveyed, it marks the first time since 2006’s ’20 Y.O’ that Jackson and the duo have worked together.
I’m really anxious to find out what this means for Janet in terms of a new label…album release date etc. Here’s hoping all falls into place for her this go-round. Say what you want, but you can’t say her post-Superbowl albums ‘Damita Jo’, ’20 Y.O’ and ‘Discipline’ didn’t have several gems on them…can you?

Continuing along the promo trail for her sophomore effort ‘Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams’, Solange stopped by the Jimmy Kimmel Live show yesterday. She was interviewed and spoke on the Beyonce comparisons, ‘that’ Fox News interview and more. Peep her performance of ‘I Decided’ below:

Both the Knowles ladies definitely know how to work a stage, as Solange shows here. Great performance.

Diva Mariah Carey performed a set at the Samsung AT&T ‘Summer Krush’ series in Hollywood, California last night – portion of which was aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Check out her interview with Kimmel above, as well two performances including her first ever televised performance of ‘Side Effects’ with Young Jeezy below:

Loving U Long Time // Touch My Body

I’m not really a fan of ‘Side Effects’, nor ‘E=MC²’ for that matter, so I’m not surprised the performance did little to move me. The ‘Loving U Long Time / Touch My Body’ medley was better. Overall, an improvement on some of the truly cringe -worthy performances we have been subject to this go round. Decent.

Continuing along the promotional trial for his million-seller ‘Tha Cater III’, Lil’ Wayne performed #1 smash ‘Lollipop’ on the ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ show on yesterday. Good stuff.

Teen star Lil’ Mama performed her new single ‘L.I.F.E.’ on the ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ show last night. Her album ‘VYP: Voice of the Young People’ charted poorly in its first week, debuting at #25 with just 19,000 copies sold. Though it’s a shame, it’s hardly surprising, considering the numerous push backs; I mean ‘Lip Gloss’ came out nearly a year ago. Here’s hoping things look up for this undeniable talent.

UK singing sensation Leona Lewis has hit the promo trail hard in the US in support of her ‘Spirit’ LP, most recently stopping by Jimmy Kimmel Live. I really enjoyed this interview; it’s one of only times I’ve seen Leona let her personality shine through and she came across really well.

Having already broken records around the globe, she seems set to do the same in the US this coming week as ‘Spirit’ is almost certainly headed for the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart. What’s more, ‘Bleeding Love’ – which already hit #1 in the US three weeks ago – looks set to ascend to the coveted position once again. More power to her!

With her latest assault on the charts ‘Discipline’ now sitting comfortably at #1, Janet Jackson continues along the promo trail in support of the project, this time stopping by Jimmy Kimmel Live. The interview, which aired yesterday, saw Janet speak about the new album, her family and career, as well as chipping in on the running gag about Jimmy (the host) and Ben Affleck.

Wyclef stopped by the Jimmy Kimmel show earlier this week to perform his current single ‘Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)’. I’m really feeling this song, the performance was pretty good too. Wyclef’s latest album ‘Carnival Vol. II: Memoirs of an Immigrant’ is in stores now.

During a recent press conference to promote her new film ‘Why Did I Get Married’, Janet Jackson was quizzed on her forthcoming new album. Surprisingly, Jackson, 41, revealed that long-time collaborators Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis are, as of now, not working on her Island Def Jam debut. She had the following to say:

Janet, are you finished with your next album? What direction are you taking?

Janet Jackson: “No, I’m working on it. It’ll be out probably first quarter of next year. I’m doing something, still being who I am, I’ll never shy from that. I’m working with a few people. I’m working with Ne-Yo, I’m working with Jermaine, working with Rodney Jerkins”

(Tyler Perry points at himself and everyone laughs)

Lamman Rucker: “They’ll be doing a duet together.”

Janet Jackson: “This is something different for me because normally it’s myself, Jimmy [Jam] and Terry [Lewis] and always writing music and myself writing the melodies. This is a bit of a departure from [that].”

So Jimmy and Terry are not involved?

Janet Jackson: “As of now, no.”

I’m all for Janet working with fresh producers, but I don’t know if it’s a wise choice to drop Jimmy & Terry at this stage of her career. IMO, the duo have brought the ‘classic Janet’ element to her more recent efforts – which have seen her try and switch up her musical style. Time will tell if the change will work in her favor.
