With ABC’s revival of ‘American Idol’ proving itself quite the consistent ratings winner thanks to its talented hopefuls, revamped format, and judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, FOX – the show’s former network home – re-entered the reality-singing competition race to face off against the likes of ‘Idol’ and ‘The Voice’ by birthing ‘The Four.’

The series, with a judges’ panel featuring DJ Khaled, Meghan Trainor, and P. Diddy (alongside hostess Fergie), was a consistent ratings draw for the network despite routinely pulling in less than half the viewers of its contemporaries.

While its season 1 finale did manage to court more eyes than its premiere, just four months later its season 2’s premiere (June 7) reported a serious plunge.  See the numbers inside:

Family, fan, and estate protests were not enough to keep ABC News from airing their unauthorized documentary on the life of the King of Pop and, as ratings indicate, they also weren’t enough to keep viewers from tuning in.

Titled ‘The Last Days of Michael Jackson,’ the 2-hour special – which aired May 24th – took never-before-seen looks at the rise and fall of music’s biggest persona and also unearthed interview footage with ABC News stars Barbara Walters and Diane Sawyer that had never previously hit the air.

Despite delivering a kaleidoscope of acts with the likes of Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande, and Christina Aguilera leading the bill (click here to watch), the curators of the Billboard Music Awards were delivered news the 2018 edition had courted its lowest viewership since 2006.

Moving the show to a new network home of NBC (where it aired last night), the ceremony reeled in less than last year’s ABC-aired showing which, at the time, was itself a decade low with 8.7 million viewers.

With actress Erica Ash (‘Survivor’s Remorse’, ‘Real Husbands of Hollywood’) tapped to topline, April 10th brought with it the unveiling of BET’s fast-paced legal drama, ‘In Contempt.’  Featuring a star-studded cast filled out by the likes of Richard Lawson, Christian Keyes, and more, the series sees Ash portray “Gwen Sullivan” (a talented, tough, and opinionated public defender whose passion for her work makes her hated among her colleagues in an unforgiving legal system).

Its premiere this week was greeted by a wealth of promising reviews from viewers who took to social media to express their approval and anticipation for what was to come.  Unfortunately, that fanfare was not reflected by the week’s end when official ratings were revealed.  Not even placing in the top 50 most watched shows of the night, ‘In Contempt’ managed to rake in….

To the surprise of…well…no one, VH1 absolutely dominated Monday night (March 26) ratings.

In fact, among non-sports related or non-news related cable programming, the network’s shows occupied the top 4 slots of the night’s 50 most watched original telecasts.  With the usual tally-toppers – ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta’ & ‘Leave It To Stevie’ – leading the pack, the duo of series was joined by newcomer, ‘Teyana & Iman.’

Making its highly anticipated premiere on Monday night, the reality series – which chronicles the life and love of singer/actress Teyana Taylor and basketball player Iman Shumpert – was greeted with such fanfare it landed in the top 5 of the night’s overall airings.

Joseline Hernandez wants VH1 and the minds behind ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta’ to know that she is keeping an eye on its ratings following her departure from the series.

Clashes with the show’s producers inspired her decision to leave the platform at the end of its last season and said feud is set to intensify this week after the Puerto Rican princess took to Instagram to mock the numbers its first episode without her pulled in last week.

Why?

Over 1 million viewers opted not to tune in.

What she had to say about the substantial ratings slide awaits below…

It’s been nearly seven years since TV viewers fell in love with The Braxtons after the sisterly quintet first burst onto the reality TV show circuit with their hit series, ‘Braxton Family Values.’ But, if ratings from the show’s season 6 premiere is any indication, that love affair is still going strong.

Fortunately, if ratings pulled in by its opening episode are anything to go by, it is set to do just that this season.

As we previously reported, #Katycats were undoubtedly thrilled to learn the Katy Perry-led ‘American Idol’ reboot – which premiered Sunday, March 11th – was hailed a critical and commercial triumph.

Perry (alongside judges Lionel Richie & Luke Bryan) assisted ABC’s rendition of the reality singing competition reel in over 10 million viewers for its official return, figures that even helped it best ratings from former network home FOX and its highly viewed OJ Simpson interview.

Yet, in the show’s biggest test of commercial viability yet, with last night’s episode – which went head to head with singing competition ratings leader ‘The Voice’ (NBC) – ‘Idol’ hit a bit of a sour note.
