Although the promo train for Jazmine Sullivan‘s latest EP, ‘Heaux Tales,’ has already pulled into radio stations across America and even seen some of its content displayed on the Soul Train Awards, late nite TV, and more over the last few months, it shows no signs of slowing.

Undoubtedly, her fans aren’t complaining as the January 8-released ‘Tales’ came as the highly praised R&B diva’s first body of work since 2015.

Making up for lost time, Sullivan was most recently spotted turning heads and dropping jaws with a nearly 30 minute virtual concert as part of  HBO Max’s third annual ‘Our Stories to Tell’ series at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival (January 29-31).

Kicking off the three-day event – which is designed to reaffirm the streaming channel’s commitment to multicultural storytelling and creators – Jazzy delivered a stunning set that included previous hits ‘Bust Your Windows’ and ‘Lions, Tigers, and Bears’ as well as new ‘Heaux Tales’ cut ‘Girl Like Me’ and more.

Despite not delivering her long-awaited new album, ‘Trenches,’ on its original November 20-due date (as we reported here), Monica has still been hitting the promo trail in support its title track.

Launched in August (on the same day as her history-making #VERZUZ battle with Brandy), the single shot straight to the top of real-time sales tallies thanks to the exposure it received on the platform – a response that increased calls for its official music video (which didn’t arrive until November 25).

Better late than never, the cinematic clip has already received critical acclaim for Mo showing off her acting chops and reintroducing fans to her alter ego #Goonica.

Fresh from her Best New Artist win at the 2019 Soul Train Awards (as we reported here), Summer Walker is giving fans something they can feel with new song ‘Something Real.’

Boasting production by London On Da Track, Walker calls on Chris Brown to assist on the 90s-inspired jam. After the lyrics see the 23-year-old run down the list of qualities she looks for in a man, Brown responds with:

“I know you ain’t never had nobody in your life / That’ll come and do you right, right
Don’t you let me to change your life? Girl
I’m tryna put that wrist underwater / Girl, I might just give you a daughter”

As we celebrate the 21st anniversary of Brandy’s sophomore effort ‘Never Say Never,’ this week’s From The Vault salutes one of its most notable numbers – ‘Top Of The World.’

Released on June 9th 1998, ‘Never’ was a gargantuan record, spurning colossal classic ‘The Boy Is Mine’ featuring Monica and putting R&B on the map like never before.

Amongst the many Darkchild produced gems housed on the album, ‘World’ was selected as the second international single. With its #2 placing in the UK – and #1 in the R&B charts – it proved that there was more to Ms. Norwood than that fire duet that dominated the airwaves earlier in the LP’s trajectory.

Lyrically, the track saw the singer staying true to her roots and who she was before fame, it had a guest rap verse courtesy of Diddy’s then-partner in crime Mase.

***********

Paul Hunter directed the single’s accompanying video. It featured Brandy levitating in New York City and cranking out 90s flavored choreography on a rooftop with a group of dancers… and Mase.

The pair briefly reunited a few years back and busted out the same moves during the Soul Train Awards where Brandy was fittingly honored with the Lady Of Soul Award.

Here at That Grape Juice, we’ve long admired B-Rocka’s talent and output, and we can’t wait to see what she has been cooking up for her first album since since ‘Two Eleven.’ Also, it will be interesting to see how she approaches the project as her first independent release.

Though it’s impossible to predict the fate of an LP, musically there’s little room for debate – Brandy always delivers.

So, ready when you are, B!

Your thoughts?

Teyana Taylor is steadily pressing on with the push for sophomore album ‘K.T.S.E.’

The singer’s latest stop was the ‘Ellen’ show, where she dazzled with a live rendition of ‘Issues / Hold On.’

Ever the creative, the 27-year-old delivered a Soul Train themed spectacle.

She was also awarded with Gold plaque for ‘Gonna Love Me.’

All the action awaits after the jump…

With ‘Culture II’ hits – ‘Stir Fry’ and the Drake-assisted hit ‘Walk It Talk It’ – both walking right into the top 20 of the Hot 100 (the latter after a little help from its ‘Soul Train’-inspired music video that can be seen by clicking here), rap trio Migos is still far from resting on their laurels.

Also found aboard the Birdman-led ‘Before Anythang:  The Cash Money Story’ soundtrack, the Atlantan emcees can be heard contributing the synth-soaked song ‘F*cking Up Profits.’

Produced by Buddah Bless, the cut may not see them stray too far from their usual topics lyrically (heauxs, stuntin,’ etc.),but sonically it is more akin to West Coast hip-hop than their Grammy-nominated trap-tinged offerings of releases past.

Migos & Drake take a ride on the soooooooul traaaaain (well…kinda) for the accompanying music video for their hit collabo, ‘Walk It Talk It.’

The ‘Culture II’ cut, which had already seen a top 20 peak on the Hot 100 ahead of today’s video premiere, is sure to walk right back into the chart’s upper rankings after fans take a peak at the hilarious video which sees the quartet of rappers pay homage to the classic ‘Soul Train’ music series with their own version called  the ‘Culture Ride.’

Tapping Academy Award winning actor Jamie Foxx to portray “Ron Delirious,” his comical spin on ‘Soul Train’s legendary host Don Cornelius, look inside to see just what Drizzy and the guys from Migos cooked up for this long awaited visual:
