After a nearly two month delay due to the global health crisis, the 78th annual Golden Globe Awards kicked off in grand style Sunday night (February 28).
Hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, the virtual ceremony was bicoastal – with Poehler presenting from The Beverly Hilton in California (where the awards ceremony is usually held) and Fey from the Rainbow Room in New York City.
Honoring some of 2020’s best and brightest movers and shakers across the big and small screens, look inside to see who walked away with trophies from the Globes’ 2021 edition:
Today’s From The Vault pick comes courtesy of an R&B prince.
This week’s selection is ‘Because Of You’ by Ne-Yo.
After a successful debut era, it’s safe to say the star – real name Shaffer Smith – was hoping to match his past glories. A little over a year after putting out ‘In My Own Words,’ he released his sophomore set ‘Because Of You’ as well as the title song as its first single in early 2007.
Produced by Stargate and written by Ne-Yo himself, ‘You’ is a groovy disco-infused love song reminiscent of early 80’s Michael Jackson.
It proved to be a wise pick, as it hit #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US and #4 on the Official UK Singles Chart.
The song’s video was directed by Melina Matsoukas. It presents the artist stepping out on his girlfriend with a lady he met at the club and then becoming addicted to their late-night rendezvous.
The video features Camila Alves – wife of actor Matthew McConaughey – as Ne-Yo’s girlfriend. It has amassed more than 190 million views to-date.
With ‘Because Of You’ – both the song and album – Ne-Yo proved to the masses that the sophomore slump isn’t a mandatory rite of passage. Additionally, not only was he riding high on his own chart success, but he was also scoring wins left and right through the material he was writing for other acts. Talk about multitasking!
Though the top of the charts hasn’t been populated with Ne-Yo’s music in a long time, he remains R&B royalty and his impact on the music landscape is undeniable. Both as a singer and a songwriter.
Deb Antney is hot on the promotional trail for the new FX series ‘Hip-Hop Uncovered,’ which she serves as one of the anchors of.
The revered manager appears alongside other notable names on the docu-series, which spotlights key figures who’ve parlayed their street acumen into music industry machines.
Antney is especially notable for managing a young Nicki Minaj.
During an interview on Drink Champs with N.O.R.E and DJ EFN, she seized the moment to weigh-in what was the femcee’s then-secret relationship with ex Safaree.
As formidable managers, few in music history have made the impact Mathew Knowles has.
Renowned for shepherding the careers of both Destiny’s Child and Beyonce as a solo act, the Knowles patriarch was instrumental in the seismic success achieved by the acts on his roster.
Yet, with his clients having taken the reigns of their respective careers, he’s plotting his complete exit from the music business.
Afrobeats titan Davido has been on quite the roll and shows no signs of slowing.
The Nigerian star garnered global success with Gold-certified singles ‘If’ and ‘Fall’ and carried that momentum into the release of his 2020 album ‘A Better Time.’
And the promotional push for the LP continues.
Fresh from being named one of TIME’s Next 100 Most Influential People, Davido assembled his band for a rousing performance on the Tiny Desk (Home) Concert series.

2020 may have been the year that built buzz for rising R&B singer Giveon, but 2021 is proving itself the year the 26-year-old is set for breakthrough.
First gaining international notoriety as a feature on Drake‘s hit ‘Chicago Freestyle’ (which peaked at #14 on the Hot 100 last year), the crooner (born Giveon Dezmann Evans) went on to release two EPs in the months that followed – the GRAMMY-nominated ‘Take Time’ (March 2020) and ‘When It’s All Said and Done’ (October 2020).
While those efforts managed to peak at the #70 and #93 rungs respectively on the Billboard 200, an appearance on the Hot 100 eluded Evans – until this week.
Despite constant comparison over their careers for their similar signature brands of heartbroken R&B and melodic misandry, dueling divas Keyshia Cole and K. Michelle haven’t always seen eye-to-eye.
According to Michelle, however, that hatchet’s been buried and – if she has her way – she may soon be joining forces with the GRAMMY nominee to create a joint project.
Ahead of his epic Super Bowl LV performance (click here to watch), The Weeknd was already scribbled in Hot 100 history books for the ongoing success of his 2019 ‘After Hours’ hit, ‘Blinding Lights,’ which is listed as the longest-running top 5 and longest-running top 10 hit ever.
Nearly three weeks after scoring a critical touchdown at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium, the singer (born Abel Tesfaye) is enjoying continued gains on the streaming and digital download front of the songs he perormed that night.
In addition to watching his tune, ‘Save Your Tears,’ rocket into the Hot 100 top 5 for the first time (marking his third ‘After Hours’ song to reach the chart region), Tesfaye’s learned ‘Lights’ – at #4 on the refreshed tally – is shining in the top 10 for its 50th week.
It not only extends his record for longest-running top 10 (and top 5) hit, but also comes as the first time any artist has enjoyed as lengthy of a run inside the tally’s topmost dectet with one song.

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.
However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.
This week, we want to highlight cuts from Zara Larsson, Conan Gray, Madison Beer, and Samuel Mancini.
