‘Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ is already penciled in history books for many feats including being the first female album to sell over 400,000 copies its first week, owning the first female Hip Hop song to debut at #1 on the Hot 100 (1998’s ‘Doo Wop’), owning the first debut song of any genre to premiere at #1 on the Hot 100 (‘Doo Wop’), first and only female Hip Hop album inducted into the Library of Congress, garnering Hill the most GRAMMY nominations of any female artist in one night (10), and making her the first female act to win at least 5 awards in one night including ‘Album of the Year’ (the first Hip Hop album ever to do so).
As if those historic accomplishments weren’t enough, the list of record-setting triumphs seems to have no end in sight as the Recording Industry Association of America revealed Monday (February 16).
