After winning rave reviews for her portrayal of civil rights activist Betty Shabazz on Lifetime’s recent ‘Betty & Coretta’ (Angela Bassett), Queen of Hip Hop Soul Mary J. Blige found herself in Los Angeles this weekend being honored at the VIBE Impact Awards.

Joined by celebrities like Ciara, Future, Diddy, and more, the magazine toasted their own success of 20 years in print as well as to Mary’s two decade long career as well.

The ultimate honor comes in the form of the singer’s latest cover of the hip hop publication for February/March 2013.  Many may not know, but Mary has covered Vibe magazine more than any other artist since its debut.  As ever keep it locked to That Grape Juice for more from this spread as it becomes available.

With their loyal fan bases and infectious numbers, Pop’s leading ladies are no doubt the glue that keeps the industry’s finances in place.

From Beyonce to Lana, Ciara to GaGa, numbers generated by these femme fatales stay at the center of arguments for and against their causes. Only right then, that we dedicate to today’s Chart Check to these leading ladies- showcasing the heights of their commercial prowess.

Though it isn’t as publicized as it should be, Mary J.Blige remains R&B’s only consistent female ‘seller‘.

Unfortunately tarred with the same brush of perception that’s sullied her genres worth to the wider public, regular releases and well executed campaigns have ensured that her numbers remain favorable and at times miraculous even at their ‘worst’.

Her ‘worst’, being watching her latest LP ‘My Life II’ receive Gold certification after six months. A certification, many of today’s R&B releases are unlikely to ever see…ever.

However, by way of Rihanna‘s smash hit ‘Diamonds‘, Blige is on course to lose a record set in 2005 with Bryan Michael Cox penned ‘Be Without You’.

It may not take much for Barbadian beauty Rihanna to sail a single to the top of Billboard charts, but as spring 2012 proved, she isn’t the best captain on the movie-front.

Indeed, after quickly sinking at the box office, Ri’s ‘Battleship’ didn’t exactly make a splash with critics either – now landing she and crew aboard the 2013 Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) list.

With a whopping 7 nominations (just behind hit film ‘Twilight: Breaking Dawn II‘s eleven nods), including ‘Worst Picture’ and a ‘Worst Supporting Actress’ nod for her own showing, it looks like somebody at the Razzie academy – much like other academies – was not pleased with Ri’s performance.

She’s in good company, however.  As, much like her fiercest chart competitions, she will go head to head with movies featuring the likes of music starlets Ciara, Jennifer Lopez, and more:

Ashanti.

If ever there was an act who could get it right but doesn’t time and time again, it would- and is her.

Indeed, while the public hasn’t completely lost faith in her chances of a come back, poor and confused managerial / creative decisions have made her train a little difficult to wait for, especially when the likes of Brandy and Ciara are guaranteed to offer fans an easier ride.

So, in the hopes of restoring faith in her talent, she took to ‘Fox & Friends’ hours ago to perform a stunning rendition of ‘The Christmas Song’.

How did she fare?
