We virtually stand together today to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the the BET Awards.
As the show’s motto highlights: “our culture is too big to cancel” and its impact all over the world.
This week’s From The Vault comes courtesy of Beyonce and Jay-Z. It’s the Carters debut performance of hit single ‘Deja Vu’ in 2006.
Issued as the first offering from Bey’s sophomore solo effort ‘B’Day,’ it was produced by Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins.
The track peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was also a hit overseas, topping the UK charts and reaching Top 20 status in numerous European countries.
Though Bey’s debut solo era and final Destiny Child run shortly after saw her pull out the big guns production-wise, she opted for a simpler approach for her premiere sophomore showing.
Indeed, backed by her newly-recruited all-female band The Mamas, Jay-Z, and her out-of-this world presence and charisma, the diva lit the stage on fire and injected new life into the already vibrant song.
When it comes to repping black excellence, it doesn’t get any better than The Carters, and that’s likely why over the years they have been honored in abundance by BET.
As well as Bey, we salute BET for championing the culture and bringing it to the forefront in such a resonating way for over 20 years with their globally renown ceremony. Here’s to many more!
Naomi Campbell‘s ‘No Filter‘ series is examining how racism and implicit bias works within the arts.
The supermodel invited a number of her friends on the latest episode of the show to discuss her journey in the modelling and fashion industry and how it gave her insight into how prejudice influences the most important decisions which are made in the business.
Decisions, which impact everyday people in the real world.
There, she also addressed the rising trend of up and coming black fashion designers who find themselves (and their innovative ideas) consumed by major fashion houses because they cannot find the investment capital to propel their own ideas to the top.
Press play to watch Campbell chop it up with Bethann Hardison, Tyler Mitchell, and Cleo Wade.
Usher is wasting no time driving home his message on powerful new song ‘I Cry.’
For, just a day after releasing the track, the icon took to the stage at ‘Global Goal: Unite for Our Future’ fundraiser to perform it.

Peruse of Billboard will show The Clark Sisters have yet another reason to declare victory as their hit reunion single – the first from their 2020 album ‘The Return’ – reigns as champion of the current Gospel chart.
The win comes just two months after their long-awaited Lifetime biopic, ‘The First Ladies of Gospel,’ ranked #1 on TV ratings and became a critical and commercial homerun in the process.
To still be experiencing this level of success over 50 years into their careers is something they don’t take lightly, as revealed in a recent chat with That Grape Juice correspondent Shar Jossell.
