With a fan base that’s stuck by her through thick and thin and a career that’s seen her reach heights unlikely to be attained by even her strongest of competitors, Britney Spears is without a doubt the most groundbreaking act to debut within the last twenty years.

So, with this fact and her former sales figures in mind, her fans had believed the unveiling of her new album ‘Britney Jean’ would bring it with a promotional campaign worthy of the icon’s star power.

A campaign, that would do everything in its power to ensure pulled in commendable sales at worst and mind blowing digits at best. Alas, these fans received quite the shock when the promotional plan employed to push the album felt too ‘relaxed’ for their liking, doing little to give the project a healthy of chance of rocking the charts.

Now, in an interview with ‘USA Today’, the ‘Don’t Let Me Be The Last To Know’ singer has revealed why she avoided a ‘Born This Way’– like campaign.

The critics are already lending their forecasts on how Britney Spears’ highly anticipated Vegas residency (which kicks off today) will pan out.

Indeed, the trek – titled ‘Piece of Me’ – is being hailed by some as a triumphant return to form for the once vibrant pop star with some evidence being found in recent videos like moderate hit ‘Work B*tch’ and its follow-up documentary ‘I Am Britney Jean’.

Others, like revered New York magazine pop critic Jody Rosen, are not so easily convinced.  Claiming the venture is a “risky gamble” with fear the former chart titan will not be able to consistently draw crowds, Rosen took to her pad to impart thoughts that didn’t quite sit so well with members of #BritneyArmy.

Gone like the wind.

Indeed, like a thief in the night, Britney Spears‘ new album ‘Britney Jean’ has all but vanished from most charts.

Still, undeterred by this (and the fact the LP has registered the lowest opening sales of her career), the singer has teamed up with E! for a new TV special christened ‘I Am Britney Jean’.

With music clearly not a top priority anymore for the former stage blazer, the 2-hour docu-movie instead captures the preparation for the 32-year-old’s new Vegas show ‘Piece Of Me’.

Peep a teaser below and tune in (if you choose) on December 22nd.

The Spice Girls may be more of a catalogue act these days than contemporary chart-toppers, yet that hasn’t stopped their still-strong fanbase from hoping for a reunion. Especially with the ladies 20th anniversary looming.

However, it appears Posh Spice has other ideas. For, in a new interview with Vogue Paris about her successful foray into the world of fashion design, Victoria Beckham revealed that she’s officially “done” with music.

The revelation comes after years of speculation about Beckham’s alleged friction with the quintet’s other members – alleged friction that would intensify each time a “reunion” rumor or opportunity gathered steam.

Retirement.

In recent years, it’s a topic routinely brought up following most Britney Spears performances; and a topic debated even more so these days following the singer’s lack of promotion for new album ‘Britney Jean’.

Reps for the star’s upcoming Las Vegas residency ‘A Piece Of Me’ claim that the nature of the star’s deal means she is unable to perform anywhere in the US during the show’s two-year run. Not any award show, not a tour. Nothing. Much to the disappointment of fans.

Yet with “disappointment” being the general consensus anytime Spears takes to the stage, even sects of her loyalest supporters believe it best she takes an indefinite break.

Interestingly, the big “r” seems to be on Britney’s mind too. Peep her new interview with Extra’s Mario Lopez after the jump…

She’s the Pop icon boasting of records even the strongest of her competitors are unlikely to match…ever.

Unfortunately, while that icon status should ensure the performer churns out ‘icon worthy’ material with every release, her latest studio album ‘Britney Jean‘ has seen her deliver what’s undoubtedly her worst LP to date.

Now, one day after its release, the project has welcomed its first week sales predictions, sure to give Camp Britney a reality check that could have been avoided had they sourced better material for the performer.

The 2013 Soul Train Awards, which aired tonight, saw R&B’s finest go head-to-head for the show’s coveted trophies.

With the likes of Urban music’s finest, including Kendrick Lamar, Tamar Braxton, Justin Timberlake, K.Michelle and more leading the nominations tally with at least 5 nods a piece, the competition was stiff in ways we’ve only seen from Britney Spears in the past.

Now, that the show is over, find out who picked up which awards in which categories at the high profile outing below…

The forecasts are in and it’s looking like rainy days may be ahead for Britney Spears‘ new album ‘Britney Jean’.

Led by ‘Work B*tch’, the LP has been the subject of ample debate (including here on That Grape Juice) due to the so-so performance of its preceding singles – the latest being ballad ‘Perfume’.

Like the record-buying public, the material we’ve heard thus far has done little to rouse us. A fact that seems to have weighed heavily on the project’s potential sales.

For, the ever-reliable folk over at Hits Daily Double have revealed their opening week estimates for the LP. And let just say, like ‘Perfume’s chart performance, it doesn’t smell too nice.

She’s the Pop icon whose impact on music and culture alike remains to be matched or surpassed by any to have come after her.

Alas, by way of circumstances clearly out her control, Britney Spears has found her stock as a musician dashed to the bottom of Pop’s food chain this year thanks to the confusing / worrying handling of her latest LP ‘Britney Jean‘.

What’s gone wrong now?
