It’s just a good week to be The Weeknd.
The same day the Grammy winner unleashed his highly anticipated fourth studio album, ‘After Hours’ (March 20), he learned its two lead singles – ‘Heartless’ and ‘Blinding Lights’ – had been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), denoting over 1 million in sales equivalence respectively (as we reported here).
Released via XO/Republic, the set made Apple Music history by surpassing over a million pre-adds on the service by the time of its release. Going on to dominate the digital platform’s real-time charts, ‘Hours’ also commanded a number of positions on other digital tallies like iTunes, Amazon, and Spotify. His grip over the latter was so notable, the streaming giants took to social media to congratulate him on news the LP had zoomed past the 1 billion spins mark.
