As we reported here, late October saw music mogul Mathew Knowles stun fans of his former flagship act, Destiny’s Child, when he announced the release of a compilation album featuring unreleased music of the group’s first incarnate, Girl’s Tyme.

A six-member ensemble, Tyme formed in 1990 and featured members from DC’s original lineup (Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, and Latavia Roberson).  After rising to national attention thanks to a loss on the then-wildly popular televised talent show, ‘Star Search,’ the group – after a few personnel and label changes – eventually settled on a new name: Destiny’s Child.

The music they recorded under the stage moniker Girls Tyme was “locked in a vault”…until now.  Presented via ‘Destiny’s Child: The Untold Story Presents Girls Tyme,’ the 15-track set was released Monday (December 2) and accompanied by the book, ‘Destiny’s Child:  The Untold Story.’

From ‘Watch What Happens Live!’ to ‘The Tamron Hall Show,’ the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and more, singer Kelly Rowland left few stones unturned while hot on the promo trail for her Lifetime movie, ‘Merry Liddle Christmas’ (which aired November 30).

And, while few of those appearances gave her the opportunity to show off her much-missed performance prowess, a stop by wildly popular Youtube series, ‘Good Mythical Morning,’ did that and more.  In addition to dishing about the made-for-TV film, Rowland took to the “stage” during a game show segment that required contestants remix Pop songs to yuletide classics.  It’s no surprise Kelly was charged with the task of giving Destiny’s Child hit, ‘Say My Name,’ a Christmas twist.

Fans who fell in love with Tamia‘s 2007 holiday themed EP, ‘A Gift Between Friends,’ will be thrilled to know the Grammy-nominated diva is back in the spirit and ringing it in with new music.  Her latest effort comes as a remake of Stevie Wonder‘s seasonal staple ‘Someday at Christmas.’

Tapping Grammy-winner Shep Crawford (the craftsman behind her biggest hit, ‘Stranger in My House’) to helm production, T and her soaring pipes give the Christmas classic a modern twist like only she can.

While it’s unclear if the song is tied to a larger project (at present), what is clear is that you need to get inside ASAP and hear the magic of this remake:

Viewers apparently couldn’t get enough of the potent comedic combo of Jill ScottMichelle Buteau, and Ryan Michelle Bathe as the trio of ladies led the BET+ remake of the classic 1996 revenge comedy ‘First Wives Club‘ (which originally starred Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, and Diane Keaton).

After bringing some serious doses of funny for its inaugural season, the series – which famously sees ‘Girls Trip’ writer Tracy Oliver attached – has been renewed for a follow-up.

This week brought with it the 25th anniversary of the legendary ‘My Life’ LP by an even more legendary songstress.

Today’s From The Vault comes courtesy of the mighty Mary J. Blige. We give you ‘I’m Goin’ Down.’

For the moody set’s second single, Mary and team went for their Rose Royce cover. A critics favorite, the track’s production was handled by Diddy and Chucky Thompson; it would go on to peaked at #22 on the US Hot 100.

Matthew Rolston directed the song’s visual, a classy monochrome throwback that sees Mary assuming the role of a lounge singer passionately serenading a captivated audience – with lyrics that were ironically anything but romantic.

The shots of the multiple MJBs quite literally goin’ down now stand as some of the most iconic of her career.

25 years on, Ms. Blige is still reigning supreme over the Hip-Hop/Soul scene.

As history would have it, many have tried to drive in her lane but none have succeeded. Whether it’s her unmatched authenticity, poignant vulnerability, or her seismic strength, there’s definitely something about Mary that sets her apart from all her peers.

With a career soon to span over 3 decades, one thing is for sure, Mary will go down in history as one of the greatest to ever do it.

All hail Queen Mary.
