FCC Commissioner Mike O’Rielly (pictured above) rocked headlines in early September when he sent a formal letter to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) requesting their cooperation in an investigation into the unscrupulous practice of “payola” (as we reported here).

Taking weeks to respond, their unsatisfactory reply to the inquiry has only incited a deeper probe of music industry practices. Details inside:

Look at her now sounds about right.

It’s been nearly three years since Selena Gomez released new music from an official studio album and fans apparently couldn’t wait to get their eyes and ears on the latest from the Pop darling.  Dropping not one, but two new singles just a day apart, Gomez stunned fans with the haunting ballad, ‘Lose You To Love Me,’ before unveiling the uptempo ‘Look at Her Now.’  While the latter is looking to make its inaugural appearance on next week’s refreshed Hot 100, the former stormed digital sales, streaming, and radio tallies (as we reported here) to make a #15 premiere on this week’s singles chart.

Billboard also reports:

‘[‘Lose You to Love Me’ enters the Hot 100 with] 36,000 sold (digital sales), 15.3 million streams, and 14.1 million in radio audience impressions.’

Coming as the second-most impressive Hot 100 entrance of her career (following 2015’s #9 debut of ‘Good For You’), ‘Lose You’s first week performance is all the more impressive considering the song impacted charts based on just two days of sales counts due to its unconventional release date.

As we extend our congratulations to Selena, look inside to see who joins her in the top 25 of this week’s edition of TGJ Chart Check:

Singer-songwriter Major Johnson Finley, better known mononymously, has earned critical acclaim aplenty for his work since the release of his debut single, 2016’s ‘Why I Love You’ (which rocked Billboard’s R&B charts).

Undoubtedly looking for a redo its follow-up effort, ‘Even More,’ the title track from the project features guest vocals from Grammy-winning songbird Brandy (fans may remember, the two co-starred on FOX’s cancelled musical drama ‘STAR’).

Now reunited for a good cause, the accompanying video for ‘Even More’ debuted just before the close of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and – thanks to a partnership with Susan G. Komen’s #CancerAintMyName campaign – the song salutes cancer survivorship in a grand way.

While Megan Thee Stallion has never been one to shy away from stripping off her designer duds to show off her assets, it was her music that was stripped back recently thanks to a rocking acoustic set on NPR’s wildly popular ‘Tiny Desk’ concert series.

Armed with some of her biggest hits including ‘Hot Girl Summer,’ ‘Realer,’ and more, the freestyle queen was joined by Brooklyn band Phony Ppl to crank out the numbers (and even showed off a new song with the group).
